Jay Speights

Jay is a spiritual coach and author, who writes for The Washington Times online edition, where he provides social, spiritual, and political commentary. He is also the author of “All Paths,” a weekly column on United Press International’s ReligionAndSpirituality.com, where he consistently writes about how an interfaith approach or solution can be a key ingredient in bringing peace to many of the troubled regions in the world, and mitigate much of the faith-based religious intolerance and hatred that exist. Jay always says,” we must focus on our shared moral and community values, and not our differences. This allows us to find the unity that already exist.”

His first book entitled,   ” Harmonious Day”, which is a multi-faith perspective on finding and maintaining balance and harmony in daily life was ranked 29th on Amazon’s Best New Selling Releases in Religion and Spirituality in August of 2007. He also received The Punjabi  Literary and Cultural Society Award for Distinguished Commentary at Lincoln Center in New York in 2007.

Jay is an on-call chaplain at The Washington Hospital Center in the nation’s capital, where he was the first interfaith minister to train and serve in that capacity.  He is a graduate of Howard University where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and a M.A. in Public Affairs. In 2005, Jay graduated from The New Seminary in New York and was ordained by The Interfaith Temple.

For many years, Jay worked on Capitol Hill and for several trade associations in Washington including the NAACP. He also worked on many local and national political campaigns and operated a Public Affairs Consulting firm called JSA. Jay has lived in Washington since 1971.
