Chris Christie says no to presidential run and 'Flavor of the Week' status

SAN DIEGO, October 5, 2011 — Tough-talking, union-busting Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) disappointed Republicans yesterday after announcing, for a second time, that he will not run for President of the United States in 2012.

“Now is not my time,” remarked Christie at a news conference yesterday in Trenton, New Jersey. He added, “New Jersey, whether you like it or not, you’re stuck with me,” Christie added.

He also believes that Obama should not be re-elected: “The country will be better if President Obama is a one-termer.”

Many looked to him as the party’s last hope due to “lack of excitement” for the Republican field.

Christie’s biggest cheerleader—conservative author Ann Coulter—tweeted the following after his announcement: “Christie says he positively will not run … of course he was talking to his trainer at the time.” Coulter was the most outspoken champion of the Jersey governor; often a fanatical one. She recently ignited debate about weight being a deciding factor in the 2012 election—stating she would rather have a “fat man” (Chris Christie) over a “bean pole” (President Obama) as President of the United States.

In contrast, other conservatives—including commentator Michelle Malkin—grew tired of Christie toying with a presidential run. She tweeted, “Christopher J Christie, will you please go NOW?”

Christie is a bold politician: one who is not afraid to deliver the truth and one who does not succumb to political correctness. He told a New Jersey resident to butt out of his decision to put his children in parochial school. Additionally, he berated the NJEA for making rude comments and threats against him in regards to education reform.

Thankfully, Christie decided to stay out of this election cycle to focus on his current job.

Unfortunately, Chris Christie boasts many moderate to liberal views.  If he ran for President of the United States, he would have been outed as a Republican in Name Only (RINO):

1)      He thinks “global warming” is man-made.

Allan Ryskind of HUMAN EVENTS writes,His belief that “climate change is occurring and that humans play a contributing role” appears to have shaped his energy policies.”

Conservatives rightfully dismiss the notion that “global warming” and “climate change” will destroy the Earth. The green industry, best evidenced by the recent Solyndra scandal, is a scam. Many Nobel Prize laureates and esteemed climatologists have denied the existence of man-made global warming, as well.

2)      He is ambivalent to illegal immigration.

In 2008, Christie dismissed claims that illegal immigration poses a threat to the United States by saying, “Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime.”

With the continual influx of illegal immigrants into this country, including many drug lords and criminals, conservatives cannot afford to support amnesty or the DREAM Act in any capacity.

3)      He made insensitive comments about opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque.

A  Yahoo News article  touched upon the subject and noted, “Last year, Christie accused politicians on the Left and Right of using the proposed “ground zero mosque” as a “political football,” says Thomas Fitzgerald at The Philadelphia Inquirer, suggesting he thought conservatives were exploiting anti-Muslim emotions stirred up by the 9/11 attacks.”

Conservatives are not anti-Muslim by any stretch of the imagination. Nevertheless, they view the Ground Zero Mosque with great contempt because Muslim terrorists killed us on 9/11 near that very site.

4)      He is for gun control.

Pajamas Media reports that Christie’s crusade to restrict gun rights began in 1995 as, “Christie’s campaign dishonestly referred to the semiautomatic firearms barred under the Clinton administration’s “crime bill” as “automatic assault weapons,” intentionally misrepresenting hunting, plinking, defense, and target rifles as military machine guns.”

True conservatives enjoy their guns and the right to bear arms. It is our constitutional right to do so. Restricting gun rights is a Democratic tenet, not a conservative one.

Those are just some examples of the less glamorous side of Chris Christie.

Regardless, Chris Christie should be applauded for sitting this race out and for his reforms in the Garden State. In the meantime, we must vet all candidates and select the best nominee to defeat Obama in 2012.

Unlike many out there today, Gabriella attributes her parents- Lithuanian immigrants- to her conservative upbringing. Her parents have a remarkable insight into conservatism because they fled the evil empire as political refugees in 1985 and entered the U.S. legally in 1986. Since age 9, she has watched Fox News and has been exposed to liberal injustices from early on. As a result, she is quite the firecracker in defending her conservative beliefs, and doesn’t hesitate to impart the corresponding message to friends and foes alike.

Hoffman brought David Horowitz to campus May 2010, where he successfully highlighted the dangers involved in radical Islam with efforts like “Apartheid Week” and comments made by those proponents like Jumanah Albarhi. The event made national headlines, with mentions on Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. She is one of the foremost conservative activists at UC-San Diego, having interned with Young America’s Foundation at the Reagan Ranch Center.
