In John Kerry’s world a "Swift" boat is a yacht

CHARLOTTEJuly 7, 2013 – With each passing day it becomes increasingly difficult to know where to begin when it comes to global politics. Even World War II was not as complicated as the chaos in the Middle East and the lack of leadership from the United States.

The Muslim Brotherhood is fighting back in Egypt after a military coup removed their president Mohamed Morsi from power. That was a given. Given the opportunity, any government that has been deposed by a military coup will counter-attack. When it comes to a choice between moderation and jihad however, the extremists will pick violence every time.

In its infinite wisdom, the Obama administration believed the MB had moderated when it endorsed  Mohamed Morsi following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak. If “leopards don’t change their spots” why would anyone believe that Islamists would alter their basic beliefs?

So now the bloodshed begins and it will be a lengthy battle for control of Egypt. There are no easy solutions. Whatever the outcome will be significant in terms of what it means to the international war on terror. For that reason alone, it is time to wake up in Washington and start paying attention to the nuances of the region.

One development in the current turmoil in Egypt is the apparent difference in attitude this time than when Morsi came to power. The fact that Muslim Egyptians are even rising up against Sharia law is a major factor that has been all too absent from previous demonstrations.

As Defense Minister ‘Abd Al-Fatah Al-Sisi pronounced, “It is more honorable for us to die than it is for the Egyptian people to be threatened or intimidated.”

If, indeed, Egyptians seeking some form of true democracy are able to hold their ground and not yield to the fear tactics of the Muslim Brotherhood, that could be a huge blow to terrorism throughout the world.

If not, then Islamic extremism could gain the leverage it has been after for centuries.

With those basic ideas in mind, it would only seem logical that the Obama administration would be monitoring events in Cairo and across Egypt around the clock.

The State Department most assuredly must believe that, otherwise there would be no need to lie about the fact that Secretary of State John Kerry was lounging on his yacht on the Fourth of July as  the coup was taking place. Perhaps we should believe that Kerry thought he was back on s “Swift” boat.

Multi-millionaires need time off too. After all, it was the nation’s birthday. Kerry needed to relax and celebrate a little. Isn’t he an active member of the “Vacation Administration?”

Excuse us Mssrs. Obama and Kerry but the world could care less about our holidays and your vacations. You both signed up for this so it would behoove you to pay a little more attention to global developments and a little less time on your personal comfort.

The problem is that nothing is ever more important than what Obama and his cronies are doing. They dragged him off the golf course to get Osama bin Laden. The American people have been lied to time and again about Benghazi, the IRS and a host of other dubious executive decisions. Now, once again, the State Department fabricates a story to cover John Kerry’s rear.

It is time to rise up against these shenanigans just as the Egyptian people have done. Egypt is not only strategically important in the Middle East, but throughout the world. It was not as though the demonstrations in Cairo at the end of June and early July were a secret. Wouldn’t that be an indicator that the United States of America should be paying attention?

Obama was actually in Africa when the trouble started. Of course he was back in Washington in time to take the Fourth of July off because he had been working so hard on behalf of America.

Bad timing has been a hallmark of the Obama administration be it the president or Secretaries of State Clinton and Kerry or Susan Rice or any number of others in his cast of characters.

With the safety of the world at stake, should we not demand a modicum of leadership from those who have been placed in charge of our security?

Maybe not. After all, in the immortal words of Hillary Clinton, “What difference does it make?”
