Media won’t cover Kermit Gosnell mass murder trial

WASHINGTON, April 12, 2013 ― The mainstream media are notably absent from the Philadelphia mass murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell, 72, is charged with killing a woman patient and seven babies allegedly born alive, as well as with performing illegal, late-term abortions

Gosnell ran an abortion clinic and, according to testimony, trained his employees to cut the spinal cords of babies born alive during abortion procedures. Also on trial is co-defendant Eileen O’Neill, 56, of Phoenixville. O’Neill is charged with billing as a doctor, even after losing her license, and participating in a corrupt organization.

Charges state that Gosnell and his staff killed hundreds of babies who were born alive. Eight former employees have pleaded guilty in the case, some to third-degree murder, and have testified this month about bizarre, often-chaotic practices at the clinic.

Employee Ashley Baldwin states she began her employment at age 15 through a high school training program. Relatively untrained and with no medical training, the teen began assisting with abortions, including administering intravenous drugs. O’Neill testified that saw aborted babies move after procedures, only to have Gosnell explain it away as an involuntary response. The now 22-year-old woman said that in once case “the chest was moving.”

Baldwin’s mother, Tina, also worked at the facility where she would give patients medicines to start contractions, but not the “wealthy white patients.” Those Gosnell would tend to personally, though he was not board certified as an obstetrician or gynecologist.

“Nine out of 10 times, if the patient was white … he didn’t want me to (administer the drugs), because he wanted to meet with them himself,” Baldwin says.

Latosha Lewis, Lynda Williams, and Sherry West were also employed by Gosnell. None of the women had medical training, but all participated in procedures. These woman were performing skilled tasks for as little as $7 an hour with bonuses paid for working on late term abortions.

The Twitterverse is loud with outrage that the media are not reporting on the trial. The courtroom seats are amazingly empty, with no one covering the gruesome details surrounding the case.

Where’s the outrage? Is this a convoluted racial issue? If it were a white doctor accused of killing hundreds of black babies, Al and Jesse and the New Pink Panther Party would be here faster than Obama and Michelle go on vacation.

Reports are that Dr. Kermit Gosnell is smiling in the courtroom. Before the trial started, he told a reporter, “I provide the same care I would want my daughter to receive.”

Journalists are now so focused on creating controversy and exploitation rather than reporting the facts that accused murderers like Gosnell seem not to fit their agenda. They care more about making a name for themselves than informing readers. News is no longer news, but “entertainment” for the misinformed.

Regardless of what the media says, Gosnell should receive the death penalty if he indeed killed or ordered the killing of babies born alive. Hundreds of them.

Many liberals equate criticism of the liberal media and their protection of the Obama administration with right-wing conspiracy. The liberal media, however, are brazen in abuse of the public trust. The time has come to stop the damage they are inflicting on this nation, using our publicly owned broadcast frequencies.

The horrors at Gosnell’s clinic are just a taste of what goes on around this country in abortion clinics. The media were remarkably undisturbed when a Planned Parenthood lobbyist testified in Florida that “post birth” abortions should be legal when infants were delivered as a result of botched abortions. The media give little thought to the 350,000+ babies killed every year in abortion clinics. The tragedy of Sandy Hook trumpeted across the airwaves for political gain, but the slaughter at Gosnell’s clinic goes unheard and unremarked.

Enough is clearly enough. The failure to cover the Gosnell trial is yet more evidence that the media are not just observers of this story, but complicit in it. The time has come to act.
