BRISTOL, TENNESSEE, May 6, 2013—Only two days after a scandal broke involving a former member of a Republican social group, a leftist blogger decided to put politics over principles and side with pure evil.
David Stein was a Los Angeles gadfly who represented himself as the head of the “Republican Party Animals.”
While he was never in charge of the group, many RPA members did socialize with him. In late April it was revealed that Stein was actually David Cole, a Holocaust revisionist. Upon hearing the news, Stein, who had already been removed from the RPA board by the actual founder in 2012, was kicked out of the group entirely.
Since this is a private group with no policy role, there was no obligation to disclose this internal matter. Some in the group expressed concerns that liberal bloggers would look for any excuse to attack an entire organization over one rotten apple. Others (myself included) vociferously argued for immediate disclosure.
Those favoring disclosure saw their worst concerns recognized on May 3rd when Stein/Cole launched a preemptive strike and outed himself to a leftist paper, the Guardian. Ignoring him was no longer an option, and the truthful version of events was disseminated in rapid response fashion.
Leftists had a choice to make. Were they willing to side with a Holocaust denier just to try and score cheap political points against Republicans? Did they really have such ideological bigotry toward the right that Stein and his toxic views were the lesser of two evils?
Leftist Politicus blogger Sarah Reese Jones made her choice. She engaged in every possible corrosive tactic. She also crossed the line legally by issuing factually false statements.
She accepted at face value Stein’s assertion that he was the head of the RPA. He is not, and never was. Scott “Big Daddy” Edwards of Portland, Oregon was and is. Perhaps his attorneys can explain to her that being an opinion blogger is not an automatic defense against libelous statements.
She also claimed that the RPA “sat on” the story and tried to suppress it. She has zero evidence of this, and her claim is false.
Then she went for the political hatchet job by taking one line out of my column reporting the story. My reference to Stein as a “Jewish guy with the nasally sounding voice…” was her dog whistle. In an era when saying the word “Chicago” is racist, this was her way of stating that the RPA are a bunch of anti-Semites, with me as Jew-Hater-in-Chief.
Follow her logic. The RPA found out Stein was a Holocaust revisionist. We kicked him out of the group. He went to the liberal media, and the Guardian happily took his side of the story without bothering to verify who actually ran the RPA. Many liberal bloggers immediately accepted the Guardian story as true specifically because they desperately wanted the story to be true. The Guardian has yet to acknowledge repeated overtures to look at our evidence and correct the record.
Once again, verifiable facts are stubborn things. When the original allegations broke internally, we did not immediately rush to condemn Stein. Unlike Sarah Jones, we were more interested in the truth. Upon seeing videos of a young Stein, I was personally unable to definitely conclude that he was David Cole. Only after hearing him did his identity become a certainty. His “nasally voice” is an unmistakeable character trait, in the same way the late radio personality Wolfman Jack had an unmistakeable voice. Stein’s being Jewish is vital because nobody would have suspected that a Jewish guy would be a Holocaust denier.
Even after learning the truth, attempts were made to reach Stein/Cole to try to see if he would renounce his past. In other words, Sarah Jones preferred the lynch mob approach. We preferred making sure we had all of the facts straight. By this time there was broad agreement on going forward. The disagreement was how to break the story responsibly. Stein went public, forcing our hand. Recent White House scandals have taken months, sometimes years to uncover. The RPA proactively acted within days.
Not every leftist outfit was as irresponsible as the Stupidicus. In a shocking turn of events, the hard leftist site Daily Kos offered a backhanded defense of the RPA. KOS proudly admitted to detesting us for our Republican beliefs without playing the anti-Semitism card.
“Those Republican Party Animals needn’t worry about their reputation taking a hit due to their falling for the deceit of a duplicitous, Holocaust-denying scumbag freak show. That’ll happen. It’s just that I couldn’t think any less of them to begin with.”
The Daily Kos thinks conservatives are wretched human beings, and even they did not get in the gutter where the Politicus did. They also clearly understood that Stein’s being Jewish mattered.
“The fact that this man was spouting his vileness all while being Jewish himself was not lost on the Jewish community.”
I am Jewish and proud of it. My father is a Holocaust survivor. The entire RPA including me condemned Stein’s beliefs. Yet because we are Republicans, Sarah Jones accused the RPA (me specifically, the rest guilt by association) of “smearing” Stein.
Earth to Jones: Stein is not the victim. “Smearing” is what Stein did to Jews globally and Jones did by attacking the RPA, not my pointing out his Judaism and nasally voice (both true statements).
Republicans were violated by Stein, and Jones made the most immoral stand a human being could possibly make. She attacked the son of Holocaust victims rather than the denier that such atrocities ever took place on the scale they did. After all, Holocaust revisionism is less of a sin in her world than being a proud Republican.
That makes her as big a bigot as they come, in addition to being an irresponsible blogger.
Even the Daily Kos knew better than to make that leap down into the moral abyss where the last shreds of decency and humanity are undetectable.
