LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2013—While many people have blamed President Obama for the Benghazi scandal, none of his critics have the gravitas of retired Colonel David Hunt. A thirty year veteran of America’s armed forces, Hunt is a man’s man and a soldier’s soldier.
In a scathing editorial, he lays the blame for Benghazi straight at the feet of where the buck should stop.
Hunt is no partisan gunslinger. His first book “They just don’t get it” is a blistering indictment of politicians and civilians of all stripes who through ignorance or willful blindness refuse to acknowledge radical Islam.
In Benghazi, radical Islamists murdered four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens and two Navy SEALs. The murders occurred on the eleventh anniversary of the original September 11th attacks, rendering the administration’s claim about an anti-muslim video ludicrous.
Obama pays lips service to “accountability” and “responsibility.” Hunt demands action.
While much remains murky about the night of the murders, whistleblower Greg Hicks stated before a congressional committee that a rescue attempt was canceled. Colonel Gibson was given an order to “stand down,” and nobody in the administration will say who gave that order. As Hunt explains, the answer is crystal clear anyway.
“…only one person had the positional authority, legal mandate, and communications apparatus to give the order to defend our personnel on the ground: the President of the United States.”
Obama did travel to Las Vegas the next day for a fundraiser, but nobody knows his whereabouts during the siege of the American consulate in Libya that lasted for more than seven hours. He refuses to say.
As Hunt points out, what Obama was doing…and more importantly, not doing…separates life from death.
“The President did not give that order, and four Americans died in Benghazi that day. All the rest of the nonsense…matter not when compared to the ignominious moments in which the President of the United States refused to do his job.”
Obama promises an investigation, but on this key question there is nothing to investigate. The facts are not in dispute.
“…the one person responsible for it all is the one man who could have, but refused to, even try to stop the carnage… the President of the United States.
All the President had to say within the first two hours while being briefed by the Secretary of Defense was, ‘Send in a response force.’ This command, followed by his signature on a paper called Cross Border Authority, would have ordered the Department of Defense to do everything and anything to save lives in Benghazi, Libya.”
Despite various weapons of mass distraction employed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Susan Rice, and Press Secretary Jay Carney, they were no match for a gruff former marine who has dished out and received waterboarding during his distinguished career. Hunt is not a politician. His only agenda is the truth.
“There is one simple point to be made about Benghazi: the President of the United States is the only human being on the planet that can order a bullet, a missile, a plane, a drone, a boat, a helicopter, a soldier, sailor, spy, or push cart with a squirt gun attached to go into another country and perform an aggressive action.
On September 11, 2012, we know the President failed to give that order. We don’t know where he was, what he was doing, or why he failed to act. But we do know he failed to act, and that inaction cost the lives of four brave Americans.”
Liberals determined to defend Obama at all costs need to drop phony words such as “partisan witch hunt.” The questions are legitimate. President Obama must answer them.
Whoever gave Colonel Gibson the order to stand down made the decision to let Americans die without a fight. If anybody other than Obama gave the order, then the chain of command was violated and that head needs to roll.
As for Obama, he needs to be publicly called on the carpet. He had a big decision to make, and whether through action or inaction, he made a wrong choice unworthy of any Commander in Chief.
He let some of his best men die.
