Benghazi mom Pat Smith's Mother's Day message to Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2013 — Hillary Clinton spent Mother’s Day with her daughter Chelsea.

Pat Smith did not spend Mother’s Day with her son Sean. She never will again.

Sean Smith was murdered in Benghazi by radical Islamists. The Obama White House and Hillary Clinton State Department told the entire world that an anti-Muslim video was to blame for “spontaneous uprisings” that were anything but spontaneous. The video narrative was offered well after the true cause of the attacks was understood by President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton, and their closest subordinates.

An angry Clinton, when asked at a congressional hearing about the true cause of the Benghazi murders, thundered “What difference at this point does it make?”

At a subsequent hearing, career State Department employee and Benghazi whistlebower Eric Nordstrom could not contain his tears. “It matters to me personally, and it matters to my colleagues at the Department of State. It matters to the America public for who we serve and most importantly, it matters to the friends and family of Ambassador Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods, who were murdered on September 11th, 2012.”

It matters deeply to grieving mom Pat Smith, who was interviewed on Mother’s Day. Anybody with a human heart should demand the truth of what happened to her son.

“I am still waiting for answers to just about everything.”

“I want to wish Hillary a Happy Mother’s Day. She’s got her child. I don’t have mine, because of her.”

“She blamed the video just like the rest of them did.”

“I want someone to admit that they blew it, and that they made the wrong decision.”

“Why were they (the Benghazi victims) refused (help)?”

“The government doesn’t care.”

“We have other sons and daughters over there. It’s too late for my son, I know that, but we have more out there and they will be treated the same way.”

The reason why Smith is a grieving mother is because the government put ideology above safety. Anybody trying to get to the truth is attacked as engaging in a “partisan witch hunt.”

Even if one accepted the narrative that conservatives wake up every day wanting to rid our government of all things Obama, the narrative itself remains irrelevant. The underlying bad deeds have nothing to do with conservatives and everything to do with liberal arrogance, indifference, and overreach.

Conservative partisans led the 1998 impeachment hearings against Bill Clinton, but he alone made the decision to engage in untoward behavior with a barely legal White House intern and lie about it under oath in a deposition connected to his misdeeds.

Conservative partisans could never “use” the Benghazi families if they didn’t exist. The sin is not that Republicans may benefit from acts committed by a Democratic administration. The sin is that those horrid acts were committed in the first place.

Pat Smith wants answers from government officials who first lied to her and now refuse to acknowledge her at all. The fact that those officials are liberal Democrats is irrelevant. The fact that the critics happen to consist of many conservatives does not matter.

Liberals need to stop blaming everybody asking the questions and simply answer the questions truthfully.

Either one cares about grieving mothers, murdered Americans, and getting to the truth, or one cares about preserving power at all costs and defending those in power at all costs. There is no middle ground.

Liberals can attack conservatives for speaking out on Smith’s behalf all they want. Liberals should instead look inward and realize the shame that comes with their own side not speaking out. Their silence is what is politicizing the Benghazi debacle. Conservatives are at least offering outstretched hands to the families of the victims. Liberals through their silence and defense of the indefensible are offering only their middle fingers.

Pat Smith deserves better. We all do.
