LOS ANGELES, June 3, 2013 — Attorney General Eric Holder is not going anywhere. He will not be fired, go to jail, be held accountable, or even have his boss make the “shame, shame” index finger motion.
Eric Holder is above the law. The administration implied this for four years, and 2012 was the last opportunity to issue any consequences.
President Obama had to answer to voters. Holder only answers to one man. While Obama is not shy about shoving people under the bus, no government official has safer job security than Holder (Valerie Jarrett is not a government official).
Obama has publicly defended Holder as a “man of integrity.” When a sports owner gives the head coach the dreaded vote of confidence, it means the coach is about to be fired. In politics, the vote of confidence is literal. Obama dislikes looking foolish, and has never publicly admitted being wrong about anything significant. Firing Holder would tarnish his self-image of perfection.
Holder is also Obama’s last line of defense.
If Obama is innocent in the myriad scandals engulfing Holder, then Holder is more loyal and effective than the Secret Service. If Obama is guilty, then Holder is a far better defense attorney than prosecutor. He is the greatest Stonewall since the Civil War’s General Jackson. Whether a loyalist or potential blackmailer, Holder is as entrenched as Obama’s mother-in-law. He is family, and blood is thicker than water.
Obama and Holder appear to have a deep bond, like Reagan and Thatcher except with a record of total failure. Obama and Holder are ideological soulmates, and Holder mollifies Obama’s base. Despite being a doctrinaire leftist, Obama sometimes uses reasonable and moderate sounding words. This angers many liberals, who prefer the MSNBC frothing rage approach. They like Obama best when he speaks in terms of “everything liberal good, everything conservative evil.”
Holder does not suffer the moderation affliction. He is an unapologetic radical who has used his Justice Department to reward friends and punish enemies. He refused to prosecute the New Black Panthers when they stood outside polling booths with billy clubs intimidating white voters. For grievance mongers purposely refusing to move beyond race, Holder is their dream law enforcement official.
Congressmen John Conyers and Elijah Cummings can claim until their faces turn blue that their defense of Holder during various hearings is based on facts presented. They can deny that politically liberal black politicians who came of age during the Civil Rights era have zero emotional stake in a liberal black President and Attorney General.
They would be lying. This does not make them racists. It is natural for them to take pride in their own succeeding only decades after blacks faced firehoses. However, these Congressmen absolutely have biases shaped by their experiences.
The charge leveled here is a very serious one, that congressional liberals will sacrifice truth due to race and ideology. Anybody who has observed Democrats in recent decades can see that ideology trumps virtually everything, and raw power supersedes honor.
Richard Nixon was brought down because Republicans loved their country enough to cross party lines and root out corruption. Democrats are known for closing ranks to protect the greater good of liberalism.
The sad truth is that most liberals are not angry at Holder for abusing his position and tormenting Republicans. They are upset with him for getting caught, endangering Obama and jeopardizing liberals and liberalism nationwide.
Those doubting this theory should recall that corruption allegations dogged Holder at his confirmation hearings. He was a polarizing nominee given his work on behalf of Hillary Clinton to pardon Puerto Rican FALN terrorists. One conservative’s terrorist is another liberal’s freedom fighter, so liberal moral relativists confirmed him anyway.
Some liberals declare any criticism of Holder racist, and the notion that liberals will choose race over job performance to be a toxic argument. The conduct itself is toxic, not the accurate condemnation of said conduct.
Cummings already attacked the legitimacy of congressional hearings into various Obama scandals by demonizing Republican Chairman Darrell Issa. Does anybody think white Southerner Trey Gowdy and his South Carolina drawl will avoid racism charges if he gets close to the truth?
Eric Holder is not being lynched or hung from a tree. He is not a burning black church or a slave. He is not being subjected to Jim Crow laws or firehoses. He is not a victim of the man.
He is the man. He is the most powerful law enforcement official in America, which should have been enough for him. Instead, he turned the rule of law upside down in an attempt to use his powers for vengeance rather than justice. Terrorists were given civil liberties while American political opponents were treated as enemies of the state.
Holder could have emulated Larry Thompson, the first Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush. Thompson conducted himself ethically, honorably and without controversy. He remains a top candidate for Attorney General in any Republican administration. He happens to be black, although he never used his skin color to affect how he enforced the law.
Holder supporters will play the race card, and they will succeed. American society will become more poisoned and the discourse more coarsened. Americans will become further divided as the very proponents of division offer crocodile tears and platitudes about coming together.
Until Obama and Holder are out of office, healing cannot begin. Because of the liberal politics of intimidation and the conservative tendency to surrender to racial and ideological bullying, they will remain until January of 2017. If Americans want an honest government, they should stop electing leftists. Leftists are about bigger and more powerful government, which by sheer nature means more potential for corruption.
Under leftists, justice is not blind. Holder’s DoJ is neither blind nor even-handed. The news cycle will soon change topics, if reporters know what is good for them.
