Benghazi murders: Yes Hillary, it does make a difference

LOS ANGELES, Janaury 25, 2013—Secretary of State Hillary Clinton exploded in anger when she testified before congress about Benghazi. Four brave Americans were murdered, and four months have elapsed without any meaningful corrective action.

In what may have been an unscripted outburst, Hillary asked “what difference at this point would it make?” as to why Ambassador  Chris Stevens and a pair of Navy SEALs were murdered.

Hillary defenders went into damage control. The war room from the 1998 impeachment battle was reignited. Hillary obviously cares about murdered Americans and bringing the killers to justice. She just does not want to spend countless hours debating why the murders occurred.

Yet that is the exact “national conversation” America must have. Americans can walk and chew gum simultaneously. We can seek justice and also pursue Socratic analysis in depth.

In fact, what conservatives want out of the Obama administration is what liberals normally demand. We want to get to the “root causes” of the terrorist attacks. Liberals normally love root causes, yet this one time they want no part of that discussion. The reason is because they already know the answer, and they don’t like it.

Radical Islam is a global cancer, and having a discussion about it would challenge the entire Obama approach to foreign policy and the Obama Doctrine is in full collapse.  The killing of Osama bin Laden was a lonely isolated positive development in an overall strategy that is failing. Since Mr. Obama bleeds the personal into the political, any questioning of his policies is seen as a personal assault on him, motivated by malice and not policy.

As shocking as this may be to Obama and Hillary, this is not just about them. It is far bigger than they are.

The failure to properly analyze why Benghazi happened directly led to more Americans murdered in Algeria.

Liberals may hate President George W. Bush for simply existing, but in 2006 he saw that Iraq was slipping away. He changed course and victory in Iraq was a direct result of him putting his own ego aside for a greater good.

Obama and Hillary are human beings. Humans fail. This is what makes us humans.  Yet if Hillary continues to keep the truth about Benghazi on lockdown, it will show that she cares more about her own image than how to prevent future deaths.

Bringing the killers to justice is not the entire equation. True liberals arguing about crime constantly advocate that punishment be balanced with prevention programs. Terrorism is far more serious than crime, and terrorism prevention matters most.

So yes, the reason why Islamists murder Americans absolutely does matter. The answer is because they are Islamists.

Killing individual terrorists is not enough. The entire radical Islamist cancer must be eradicated. This process cannot even begin to succeed until American leaders honestly admit that this problem exists.

Everyone can see this except the blind, also known as the State Department.
