Clinton on Benghazi: What difference does it make?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally testified about the Benghazi murders. As for motive, she asked Photo: The US consulate in Benghazi, Libya

LOS ANGELES, January 23, 2013 — After endless stonewalling, the woman at the heart of Whitewater and the White House Travel Office firings today testified before Congress about Benghazi.

The woman whom the late New York Times columnist William Safire referred to as a “congenital liar” finally came forward without being forthcoming.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before Congress about the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and a pair of Navy SEALs. She uttered words so stunning in their heartlessness that even some liberals may have trouble white(water)washing them.

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson noted the falsehood of the “film-maker as instigator” narrative. After four months, nobody will answer “who pushed the video?” Regarding the motive for the murders, Clinton went into full righteous-indignation mode and bellowed “What difference at this point does it make?”

Only an ice queen with total indifference to the truth could ask why the truth matters. Only a woman who spent her entire life sacrificing others around her as chess pawns could ask why the motives for terrorism matter.

Critics unfairly compare her to Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth had a moral conscience, felt twinges of guilt, and wanted desperately to wash the blood from her hands.

What difference at this point does it make?

All the difference in the world. It makes the difference between lives being spared and future deaths.

Evaluating the entire Obama administration approach to terrorism hinges on getting to the truth. The entire narrative that “al Qaeda has been decimated” has been debunked under waves of successful Islamist attacks. The very idea that the Obama approach to terrorism makes America safer than the Bush approach is collapsing. Radical Islamists murdering Americans is not a tangent to the discussion. It is the heart, soul, and spilled guts of the discussion.

In the 1980s television show “Crime Story,” a police officer was told that his every word on the witness stand was a lie. He responded, “That’s not true. I gave my real name.” Hillary Clinton honestly told the committee her name before the politics of parsing took over.

She “takes responsibility,” wants “accountability,” and is “moving quickly.”

A rare moment of candor came when she admitted that “Benghazi did not happen in a vacuum.” She will not say why it did.

When South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan pointed out that the  consulate was a “death trap,” Clinton said she was analyzing the situation without emotion. Of course she was. She has none.

Liberal blather about “We need to work together” and “accelerate a diplomatic campaign” was meant to run out the clock.

She cited “budget constraints,” the typical “blame George W. Bush” response. Other State Department officials denied funding was an issue. She denied receiving a cable warning her of possible attacks. Her department was overloaded with Iraq and Afghanistan, and of course the “sniper fire” she faced in Bosnia.

Four Americans were murdered by Islamists in Benghazi. Four months have elapsed since that time. Real motives are ignored to fit a politically correct narrative. The world burns as Hillary Clinton tries to ensure that nobody will remember Benghazi when she visits Iowa and New Hampshire.

Short of Vice President Dick Cheney waterboarding Clinton and all State Department personnel, the truth will remain suppressed. If she did know about the cables, she would be guilty of perjury. When her husband lied under oath, the Clintonistas made sure there were no consequences. With her, they would again in a heartbeat.

Heartbeat. Ambassador Stevens no longer has one. Two Navy SEALs no longer have them. Based on her cavalier behavior her entire life, maybe she never had one either. Maybe she really is the Tin Man in the Obama administration of Oz.

We will never learn the truth about the Benghazi murders. The motives are in plain sight, yet will never be admitted to by liberals. They know the truth, and simply worship liberal power more. Nobody died at Watergate, but Richard Nixon resigned when Republicans put party over country. People died and Hillary lied. Yet Democratic presidential candidates from Ted Kennedy to Al Gore to John Edwards to Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton have shown how little liberal leaders value human lives.

To them, human lives make no difference whatsoever.
