While President Obama was watching the Super Bowl

LOS ANGELES, February 5, 2013 — President Obama took the day off on Super Bowl Sunday. Nobody should fault him for this. Super Bowl Sunday is a day for Americans to relax. President Obama has every right to kick back, pop open a cold one, and enjoy some football. The Super Bowl is so ingrained in American culture that there is an official movement to have the following Monday declared a national holiday. Most Americans would be fine with giving Obama and themselves Monday off to unwind. Even presidents deserve relaxation time.

The problem is that Monday was not a day off. Obama has responsibilities, and he neglected some of them last year, and the year before that and the year before that. The responsibility that fell due yesterday was the budget.

The president is supposed to submit his budget to Congress on the first Monday in February. Obama decided not to do it. It seems he didn’t feel like it. That is who he is and that is how he behaves. He is both the student and the teacher, so he just gives himself an “A” and moves on.

In past years, he submitted budgets so unserious that the Senate voted against them 99-0 and 97-0. Even Democrats were too embarrassed to accept his shoddy work.

The real world imposes consequences for unfulfilled responsibilities. December of 1982 went by without me doing preliminary work on a book report or cleaning my room. The punishment in January of 1983 was severe. The Super Bowl went on without me. Not watching that game and hearing all the kids talking about it on Monday was agony. I still can’t watch clips of it. The next year, my beloved Raiders were in the Super Bowl. My homework was completed and my room was floor lickable. Message received, lesson learned.

Obama is more than just the President. He is a devoted father to Sasha and Malia, helping them with their homework. They don’t get to neglect their responsibilities because he expects them to grow up to be solid citizens. When he won in 2008, he did not just give them a puppy. He proudly told the world they “earned” one. Obama is a successful parent. His children are good kids because they understand responsibility.

(This is where MSNBC hosts shout bloody homicide for mentioning his children by name. The fact that they were referenced in a complimentary manner would be lost in the leftist shouting about right-wing hate.)

Obama has never learned this lesson for himself because he is never held accountable for his actions, or in many cases, his inaction. When he does not like his work, he just refuses to do it.

His leftist supporters cry racism whenever anybody accuses him of being “lazy,” but how else does one describe a man who got elected to a position of high authority but refuses to perform the most basic duties of governance? His supporters think that when he goes on the road to “take his case to the people,” that this is governing. Wrong. That is “campaigning.” He surrounds himself with people who publicly praise him. Yet when he gets back to his desk away from the cheering throngs, he lacks the energy or ambition to handle tedious nuts-and-bolts tasks.

There are several explanations for this, none that liberals will accept. Perhaps Obama simply has no idea how to create a budget. As President, his expenses are paid for (or as he would call it, free). Perhaps he skipped his college economics classes. His grades are sealed, and budgeting is not the easiest skill. Obama is not a CPA or a financial advisor. While he has a budget team, a CPA cannot do a client’s taxes unless the client provides basic information. Obama’s budget team is helpless without him providing the framework.

It is also possible that he is against budgets in principle. He has access to a limitless credit card, and will spend like drunken sorority girls with daddy’s gold card at Bloomingdale’s until he is stopped. He has grand visions of environmental utopia, and a green economy costs money. This is before getting to Obamacare, another boondoggle that would never have been proposed by a corporate CEO valuing shareholder wealth. As long as Obama refuses to produce a budget, he can never be accused of violating one. He has even managed to order Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid not to produce a Senate budget for four years, although now Reid has been backed into finally producing one.

There are more serious problems than this in the world today. Americans are being kidnapped and murdered around the globe as our government is powerless to stop this. The world no longer respects or fears the United States. Our allies distrust us and our enemies delight in our repeated humiliations while our own national media protects Obama for being partially black and politically liberal.

Yet it all ties together. How can we expect Obama to do big things when he cannot or will not do the smallest little things? When half the country accepts his dereliction of duty and the other half is called racist for pointing it out, he lacks an incentive to change.

Alcoholics and drug addicts do not become clean and sober by snapping their fingers. Somebody has to hold them accountable, whether it be an individual or society at large. Obama is the opposite of a workaholic. Every day is Super Bowl Sunday. He takes breaks between parties while never getting his homework done.

He is over half a century old. It is time for him to grow up and learn adult lessons. It is time for him to just once in his carefree life receive his candy and lollipop rewards after doing his chores. Children understand this. His own children understand this.

Why doesn’t he?
