Leftists like Wonkette attack conservatives, coddle Islamists

Wonkette and other leftists groups have an unfortunate tendency to attack conservatives while coddling Islamists. The reason is simple. Photo: AP

LOS ANGELES, August 23, 2013 — When dueling rallies took place at the Westwood federal building in Los Angeles, four astroturfers from the leftist site Wonkette were there to disrupt one of them. They showed up at the conservative “Rage Against The Media” rally with a “NAZI” sign.

They left a rally of Islamists in support of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi undisturbed.

The Wonkettes responded to criticism of their hypocrisy with profanity, vulgarity and personal attacks.

They also insisted that their behavior was motivated by a dispute with one man, Jim Hoft, known as the Gateway Pundit. Hoft was one of several speakers at the RATM rally.

The hostility toward the conservatives and deferential treatment of the nearby Islamists goes much deeper than the Wonkettes. The biggest flaw of the American left is an inability to distinguish enemies from opponents. This is because as much as the left hates to admit it, far too many of them spend their time obsessing over trivial issues that do not matter. When something does matter, the left is AWOL.

“It is absolutely true that Wonkette did not protest the march in support of the Muslim Brotherhood. For one thing, they don’t owe us money,” said a representative of Wonkette. “They don’t owe us $3150, and Jim Hoft still does.”

Yet one Wonkette also offered a moment of candor in admitting what many conservatives suspect: Leftists may dislike radical Islamic jihadists, but they despise conservative Republicans.

Wonkette said, “It’s not the Muslim Brotherhood that’s trying to close American clinics, reduce American access to contraception, and keep American women in their place.”

With politically liberal women, everything comes down to abortion. Everything not related to reproductive rights is secondary. Liberals won the 2012 election by deflecting away from a miserable economy and foreign policy disasters, rallying around the “war on women.” The left votes primarily on social issues.

Little more than a decade after 9/11 and less than one year after the murder of four Americans in Benghazi, the left continues to treat reproductive rights as a more important priority than winning the war on terror. Gay rights and environmental issues also rank higher than terrorism. This does not make Wonkette and other liberals “pro-Islamist,” but placing the war on terror as a lower priority has the effect of a neutral stance.

What gives anyone the right to declare one issue more important than another? In a nation of 300 million people, there are approximately 150,000 abortions annually. This means that relatively few Americans are directly affected by the abortion issue. Most Americans are never directly affected by homosexuality in any way.

This is not to minimize the passions of people on both sides of the culture wars, but passionate minorities do not take away the overwhelmingly large, utterly indifferent majority.

The War on Terror affects everybody. At any moment, anybody can be blown to Kingdom Come. Radical Islamists have been murdering people for over four decades. Munich, Kenya, Tanzania, the U.S.S. Cole, New York, London, Bali, Madrid, Mumbai and Boston are all the result of a virulent strain of an extremist Islamic ideology gone mad.

Very few leftists have had the courage and moral clarity to rise up and join conservatives in the preeminent global struggle between civilization and barbarism. The late writer Christopher Hitchens and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair understood what mattered. They were lonely liberal voices attacked by their own side.

The unfortunate irony is that the Islamists want to kill everything and everyone that the leftists hold dearest. They brutally kill gays. The Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists do not need to close down abortion clinics. They kill their sisters and daughters for besmirching the family honor, even when that comes from being raped by the fathers and brothers who then kill them.

Islamists behead women or stone them to death for deviating from their assigned roles. Sharia stacks the deck against women. Keeping women “in their place” is what the insane Islamist patriarchy does best.

Leftist blogs are not filled with rage over al Qaeda, Bashar Assad, Wahhabists in Saudi Arabia, or the mullahs in Iran. Righteous anger is directed at Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum. None of these solves political disagreements by strapping bombs to followers and murdering liberals in the streets.

The American left combines narcissism, selfishness and obtuseness when choosing opponents on whom to wage war. They focus on the narrow interests benefitting the select few while providing nothing of political value to the rest of us.

Political activists putting narrow social issues above saving Americans from the threat of radical Islam are contributing to the moral bankruptcy of this nation. Time and resources are finite, and nothing matters if we are all murdered.

The world is on fire. Many on the right are trying to save it, and save us all. They are trying to save the house while the left argues about the arrangement of the furniture. The left is too busy attacking conservatives to worry about Armageddon. They have 1/20th of 1 percent of Americans and their precious social issues to think about.
