Obama, Osama, and Occupy, oh my!

LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2012 – May 1st, 2011, will forever be the day that Osama bin Laden met his maker.  The bullet to his eye came from an unknown hero of an elite squad known as SEAL Team 6.

This hero will never be known because real heroes do not spend every waking minute announcing that they are heroes.

For those who missed the self-congratulatory victory parades, John Kerry served in Vietnam and Barack Obama gave the order to kill bin Laden. In the blink of an eye, President Obama went from a weak, ineffectual failure to a cross between General George Patton and Private Investigator John (Shut your mouth! I’m talking about) Shaft (can you dig it?).

Yet President Obama’s attempt to turn May 1st of 2012 into a coronation ran into some roadblocks. After implying that Mitt Romney would have not made the same call to kill bin Laden, the backlash reached a fury level not seen since Zell Miller accused the Democrats of wanting to fight wars with spitballs.

Mr. Obama flew all the way to Afghanistan to give an inconsequential twelve minute campaign speech. Two hours after he left Afghanistan, a suicide bomber murdered six civilians.

President Obama was safely in the air crowing that he kept his promise to “end” rather than “win” the War on Terror.

Yet the real story was that on the one year anniversary of the death of bin Laden, another violent movement died with a whimper.

Occupy Wall Street began as a bunch of ragtag leftists willing to rape, pillage, and yell for the right to have free stuff.

It ended not even knowing what it failed to stand for.

At 11:40am PST, a bunch of car horns began honking on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. Walking to my window and viewing the scene from the balcony showed what the Occupy Wall Street movement believed in.

Several cars in a row all had slogans. Leftists really love slogans. The first one contained an F-bomb directed at a British Oil company. It read “(redacted) the Gulf, BP.”

The next car read “Abolish the Federal Reserve.” The crossover between the Ron Paul movement and Occupy Wall Street is one that the Paulbots will never admit exists.

Another car thundered “Topanga Peace Alliance—Think outside the bomb.”

A fourth car that appeared to be quite expensive simply read “Down with capitalism.”

So an environmentalist, a Paulbot, a peacenik, and an anarchist walk into a bar…or in this case a car. Then they drive them in the 2012 Crackpot Solidarity Movement (CSM) for all to see and shrug.

The right lane was an entire collection of oddballs. They honked their horns as police cars made sure the drivers obeyed the rules of the road. The normal human beings stayed in the center and middle lanes.

Yet for all of the chaos inflicted at 11:40am, what was heard at 11:45am was the same thing heard at 11:35am.

As the song says, it was the “Sound of Silence.”

That was it. Just like that, the protest had moved on to the next block, where it would soon be forgotten as well.

While the movement may have died from its own utter insignificance, the timing provided a notable irony.

President Obama wanted full ownership of Osama bin Laden. Yet despite his naked political attempt to seize the credit, he was one link in a chain that began long before he entered national politics.

If John McCain had been President instead of Barack Obama, bin Laden would have been a hunted man, the Seals would have attacked, and he would be dead.

Maybe he would have been killed the day before or after. President Obama made a decision. He made this decision based on actionable intelligence that took years to gather by many different people.

In other words, everybody else did the hard work and he received the glory.

President Obama is all about taking credit for the noble deeds of others and assigning blame for his own failures. This is what makes May 1st of 2012 so bizarre.

President Obama wants to take credit for Occupy Wall Street, but he can’t. The American people hate OWS. This is because violent thugs usually do not make for good heroes.

Yet for those who do not understand OWS, they are more than just savage criminals. They are community organizers.

Remember those people?

Community organizing was explained to Americans as decent souls who stand in line at soup kitchens and help people. This was never true. Community organizers are political agitators.

Community organizing is about fomenting instability and destroying the very structures that separate civilized society from barbarism.

If Occupy Wall Street had taken the approach of the Civil Rights marches of the 1960s, Barack Obama and David Axelrod would be seizing proud ownership.

Like most parents, it is difficult for a President or his political adviser to brag to the neighbors about dysfunctional children. The OWS protesters did not even have the decency to drive Chevy Volts with solar panels made by Solyndra.

Mr. Obama clings to Osama bin Laden action because he needs one success to distract people from a litany of failures.

Occupy Wall Street is supposed to be his way of fundamentally changing America, but it is not working. Like his green economy inititatives, people looked at his community organizing and said “we just don’t want it.”

For all of his power and willingness to use predator drones, Mr. Obama seems unable to use moral persuasion. His light bulbs are rejected. His healthcare legislation has been rejected. Now even his astroturf rent-a-mob has been rejected.

Even worse, the rejection came not in the form of retaliation, but indifference.

At this rate, 11:45am could become a metaphor for the entire Obama presidency.

There was briefly a ton of noise, and then total silence. Mr. Obama and his supporters screamed that they mattered. Everyone else shrugged and went back to work.
