Shocker: Congressional Super Committee destined to completely fail, completely fails

In a stunning turn of events, a congressional Super Committee destined to totally fail ended up totally failing. Holy Gridlock, congress failed to do something! Water remains wet. Photo: Associated Press images

LOS ANGELES, November 22, 2011 - Gallagher was right. Congress is the opposite of progress. This is just as the Founding Fathers wanted it.

The Super Committee set up to deal with America’s debt problems has totally failed to reach an agreement.

The Super Committee deserved to fail, and thankfully it did.

The only useful function it ever inadvertently performed was its role as a punching bag for Newt Gingrich. His poll numbers rose in direct proportion to his attacks on idiotic, useless government bureaucracies, personified by the Super Committee.

For the uninitiated, America is drowning in debt. Barack Obama is piling on debt at an exponential rate while blaming everybody else for refusing to balance the books while he spends America into bankruptcy.

Mr. Obama has taken turns blaming George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Grover Norquist, the Koch Brothers, Eric Cantor, Falun Gong, Cheech and Chong, Chaka Khan, El Kabong, the designated hitter rule, the NBA lockout, the Japanese Earthquake, Sarah Palin’s hairstylist, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, Miss Scarlet in the conservatory with the lead pipe, Israeli settlements, every Likud leader since Menachem Begin, the U.S. Constitution for handcuffing him, the American people for being soft and lazy, Big Oil, Big Pharma, Biggie Smalls, the Big Bopper, white police officers for acting stupidly, Dr. Spock for stealing his look, Joe the Plumber, Joe the Biden, Beau the First Dog for eating his homework, Walmart, Wall Street, K Street, Sesame Street, Little Boy Blue, the man on the moon, the cow who jumped over the moon, his fellow Irishmen Hannity and O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Jeff Beck, Beck, Beck’s Beer, Ronald Reagan, the British for abusing his father, and every other one of the 300 million people in America never named Barack Obama or Barry Sotero.

Mr. Obama then framed the debate by using polls, focus groups, and other substitutes for core beliefs.

Mr. Obama and his supporters were “balanced,” “reasonable,” people who “put politics aside” and “put country before party.” Everybody should give their “fair share.”

His ideas had “broad agreement,” defined as him consulting people with predetermined opinions already in sync with his.

Those daring to disagree with Mr. Obama were “intransigent,” “hostage takers,” who “refuse to listen.”

In a 240 second television tantrum before the nation, he bellowed “I did my job. I sent my plan.”

He has done nothing, accomplished nothing, contributed nothing, and solved nothing. He has no plan for reducing the deficit.

His party has not offered a budget in 1000 days.

Paul Ryan offered a solid plan. Mr. Obama offered more demagoguery.

So a Super Committee was set up with the specific purpose of postponing all hard choices until January of 2013. That way Mr. Obama would not have to be forced to govern, or as others may call it, “do his job.”

If the Super Committee failed to reach an agreement, “sequestration” would take place. Sequestration means that automatic cuts of 1.2 trillion dollars take place, with 50% coming from entitlement programs and 50% from defense.

The Super Committee was destined to fail because the Democrats appointed were given one mission and only one mission. Their job was to strong-arm Republicans into raising taxes. Out of gutlessness they refer to this as “raising revenues.”

The left has everything to gain by raising taxes. They get to tar and feather “rich” people. They get to divide the Republican coalition. Then when raising taxes inevitably fails as it did the last time a Republican tried it in 1990, they get to blame Republicans for agreeing to tax hikes in the first place.

Raising taxes would cripple the economy, but the left does not care. Deficit reduction and a sound economy are not the issue. Liberals simply want more money for the collection of beggars that are their constituencies, from unions to greeniacs to the permanent government dependency class.

So the failure of the Super Committee is an overwhelmingly positive development. They failed to raise taxes and destroy the economy. Sequestration is fantastic. It forces real, deep, painful cuts.

Candidate Obama said that America should take a “scalpel, not a machete” to the budget. In his 240 second tirade, he said we should take a “scalpel, not a machete.” At least he is updating his cliches.

It is time to break out the mother of all machetes.

Start with Obamacare. Kill it. Take Dodd-Frank. Kill it. Take Sarbanes-Oxley. Kill it.

Take the budget for any unproven technology, especially “green” nonsense, and kill it. There is no government money for pipe dreams. Let the private sector invest. If they choose not to, it is because there is no money to be made because they know Solyndra and its cousins are garbage-infested financial rat holes.

Since liberals will not make real cuts, sequestration is the only solution. Yes, sequestration comes with risks. The defense cuts are awful. Yet if Republicans can for once in their terribly marketed lives actually make their case, the blame will go where it belongs, right at the feet of Barack Obama.

A GOP president can always promise to restore the defense cuts after the next election. That way the cuts in entitlements can still take place.

What are liberals going to do, threaten to riot in the streets? They already do. They are occupying Wall Street for the right to steal money from producers and give it to deadbeats. That is the America Barack Obama wants to continue. That is the America people like Paul Ryan are trying to prevent.

So let the Super Committee fail. Let President Obama throw his tantrums.

This is not a debate over what to cut. It is a debate between liberals who want to spend on everything until we are broke versus conservatives who want fiscal sanity.

Any liberal claiming they want to cut anything besides defense will also argue that the Obama stimulus was not large enough to begin with. They have no credibility.

We propped up companies when we should have allowed them to fail.

Liberals prop up a failed leader by refusing to allow Barack Obama to fail.

For once, politicians did something right. They acted like themselves, ensuring that the Super Committee could do the only thing that would be proper.

They let it fail.

The Super Committee should be treated like the liberal programs it is trying to protect.

Take a machete to it. Kill it.

Then once Mr. Obama is fired, conservatives can take a financial straitjacket to government.

Let the strangulation of the entitlement state begin.
