The Republican Jewish Coalition 2012 Presidential Candidates Forum featured serious remarks by former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

LOS ANGELES, December 13, 2011 ― At the Republican Jewish Coalition 2012 Presidential Candidates Forum, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum gave a serious presentation about the threats the world faces.

The event was held on December 7th, 2011, and Senator Santorum spoke about Pearl Harbor. He pointed out that while we remember December 7th, 1941, another important date was December 12th, 1940. That was the day that France fell to the Germans.

Winston Churchill implored the United States to help, and we did nothing. "People so badly wanted to avoid war."

In relating this to the current climate in America, Santorum lamented, "I know people in this country are tired of war. We are all tired of war." Yet he cautioned that 9/11 is "the long war." "This war is 1000 years long."

With regards to the Arab Spring, he said, "A real Arab Spring should have started in Iran in 2009."

In 2004 it was Senator Santorum who introduced sanctions on Iran and their nuclear program. He had no co-sponsors. He eventually got 60 co-sponsors, yet was fiercely opposed by Joe Biden. "Find out what Joe Biden thinks and take the opposite opinion and you will be right 100% of the time."

Senator Santorum pointed out that President Obama stood ambivalent to pleas of people crying in the streets in Iran begging America to take a stand. "We took no stand, and they fell."

While Bashar Assad in Syria kills people in the street, America does not stand up. We maintain diplomatic relations with Assad, we call him a reformer, and we keep our embassy in Damascus. We do nothing.

To every thug, tyrant, and radical Islamist who comes along, President Obama offers appeasement.

We all know that Iran is on the precipice of building a nuclear weapon. We all know that there is no greater purveyor of terror to the world than Iran.

Yet as Senator Santorum told the audience, "It doesn't matter unless you have the power and the will to do something about it."

In a Santorum administration, "The United States will stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Period."

Senator Santorum understands that Iran is not a country where fear of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) will work. "The principle goal of Iran is martyrdom. MAD is not a deterrent to Iran. It is an inducement."

The solutions are to shut off the oil supply and engage in covert activity. Senator Santorum forcefully made the case that any foreign scientist working for Iran on their nuclear project is an enemy combatant and can be taken out by America as we would any other enemy combatant.

Senator Santorum pointed out that our national security effects our economy. Also, no nuclear power has ever been attacked. Iran wants to act with impunity, and getting the bomb allows them to foment global terror without consequences.

"Unless we are safe and secure, no economic plan will do any good if we are in a state of panic due to terror attacks."

In a bold statement right before the Iowa Caucus, Senator Santorum said we should "Eliminate all energy subsidies. Let the marketplace work."

He pointed out that one consequence of a continued Obama administration is an "explosion of the cost of electricity." The result is that "We are going to cripple America."

Domestically, Obamacare is the "biggest threat to freedom in this country." "People will be addicted to government entitlements." He mentioned that it cannot be repealed by executive order, but with three more Republican Senators, "We will use the reconciliation process to gut Obmacare. It will be a worthless document."

With regards to cutting government, he would "start with State Department." They are "constantly working against U.S. interests. They need to have a meat ax taken to them."

Shifting back to Iran, he told the audience to imagine the price of oil when Iran has a nuclear weapon. We know that China will not pay attention to any sanctions, but they will get the oil at a much cheaper price. Therefore, even if China tries to undermine sanctions they should still be enacted.

One questioner brought up an issue that was probably on the minds of many people in the Jewish community. Senator Santorum is an ardent social conservative, and the Jewish community tends to be libertarian on social issues. The Republican Jewish Coalition officially declines to take any public stands on social issues, focusing only on issues that unite Republicans

Senator Santorum handled the question with sincerity. Rather than try to paper over the differences or pretend they do not exist, he pointed out that all of the mainstream GOP field is pro-life and for traditional marriage. Some of the candidate are just not comfortable talking about it. A president should be believed and trusted. He should be someone with integrity. "I'm honest about it. Character matters in a leader." Senator Santorum emphasized his authenticity and tolerance of others. "I don't go out and condemn people I disagree with. I respect people."

Senator Santorum is smart, earnest, heartfelt, and has a successful record of results. He is an unwavering conservative. People know where he stands. This is why, in an uncertain world, The Republican Jewish Coalition has had a long and productive working relationship with Senator Santorum. He leads by example and does so with fortitude and certitude, yet also with humility and decency.

Santorum's entire remarks are below (from minutes 8 through 44).
