WASHINGTON, July 18, 2013 —The 65th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning and there are more than a few surprises. Netflix’s “House of Cards” just became the first online-only program to be nominated for top Emmy awards. The show received nine nominations, including best actor in a drama for both Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey.

HBO received 81 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any network for the 12th year in a row, and upstart Netflix received 14. The most Emmy nominations, 17, went to “American Horror Story: Asylum.” “Game of Thrones” received 16 nods, while “Saturday Night Live” and the Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” earned 15 nominations each, including nods for stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

Also worth noting is the fact that all the major broadcast networks were absent in the “Best Drama” category as well as “Best Actor in a Drama Series.” HBO and AMC both received two nominations in the “Best Drama” category.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented Sept. 22 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

I was born and educated in Southwest Virginia, traveled with my job all over America in my twenties and early thirties then came back to the mountains to raise my daughter.

I’ve been employed as everything from a quality control technician in industrial construction, to a mail processing plant manager, to postmaster of a small town. I’ve been to forty nine of the fifty states, as well as many other countries. Traveling will always be a passion I indulge, and something I’ll call upon often in my writing.

I come from a long line of story tellers, and will shamelessly exploit a family tree resplendent with colorful and unique characters, both past and present.

In short my perspective will reflect the pride and familiarity I have of my Appalachian heritage. My stories will be a reflection of the values I believe we hold dearest here, all embellished with a healthy dose of Southern Appalachian flare.
