WASHINGTON, December 15, 2013 - On Showtime at 9 p.m. “Homeland” wraps up its third season. So far this season Carrie, (Claire Danes) has been a sacrificial lamb for the CIA, shot by a co-worker, tossed into a mental hospital, and found out she is pregnant by none other than Brody. (Damian Lewis)
So now Carrie is watching the father of her child in a life threatening situation, she is bipolar and off her meds, and her prenatal hormones are also adding to her emotional instability.
Brody has had a rough season as well. After a gunshot wound, he is purposely strung out on the heroin given to him for pain relief. Saul eventually rescues and detoxifies Brody only to recruit him for a dangerous mission in Iran.
Last week found Brody working his way into place to complete the mission, but which side he ultimately ends up on is still in question. The viewer is never quite sure of where Brody’s loyalty lies, just as the viewer is never quite sure what crazy idea Carrie will act on next.
This is exactly where “Homeland” started out, and where it works best as a drama.
After half a season of watching Brody’s daughter flounder about for no apparent reason, it is good to see the writers have rediscovered the plot.
With this in mind, expect the unexpected on tonight’s season finale of “Homeland.”
