DECATUR, Ga. — Authorities in DeKalb County are responding to a report of an active shooter at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy. DeKalb County School Board Chairman Melvin Johnson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/16t14iF) there were reports of shots being fired inside the building.
Students and teachers can be seen sitting outside in a field after they were raced out of the school. At this time, students are at the school but will be bused to a local Wal-Mart located on Route 1-20 and Gresham Road.
Reports at this time are that no students or faculty were injured during the incident and the gunman is now in custody. On the scene reports are that the students quickly moved into a storage locker when shots were heard.
Reports are that the shooter had a woman in the school office call Channel 2 Action News to report that there was a shooter in the school. That employee told a Channel 2 assignment desk editor that the gunman asked her to call WSB-TV and that shots could be heard over the call.
The school has been cleared and authorities are stating that the situation is over, no one injured.
We will provide more information if and when it is available.
