HARRISBURG, Pa., May 18, 2013 – The growing field of mobile technology will continue to reinforce the adage “there’s an app for that.” There is a mobile app for everything you could possibly need and usually multiple versions that provide similar information. Out of the millions of apps you could download, here are five suggestions to help you save more money. If it’s free and if it saves you money, how can you refuse to use it?

RedLaser, available for both the iPhone and Android, digitizes your shopping experience. There’s no need to worry if you’re getting the best deals at your grocery store because this app will find the best price for you. While shopping, just scan the barcode on the item you want to purchase and RedLaser will show you product ratings, nutritional information, coupons available and where to get the best deal. RedLaser’s numerous features include finding alternative products, storing loyalty cards in its system, price comparison for online retailers, and the ability to create your own shopping wish list.

Coupon App

Forgot your coupon box? Well, there’s no need for it anymore with the Coupon App. Browse all the latest coupons updated continuously straight to your phone. The app even allows you to save the coupons for later or send them to a friend. The coupons you find can be scanned on your phone at the register. The app is available for iPhone and Android. For other great coupon apps, check out Yowza, Grocery Smarts Coupon Shopper, and GeoQpons.

Despite the astronomical gas prices, there are still ways to save on gas by using the GasBuddy app. Available on all major smartphones, GasBuddy tracks gas prices so you can find the best deal in your area. This is especially handy if you have a job where you have to drive a lot, like plumbers. Users are encouraged to share their local gas prices to help update the app. In return, you are entered in a weekly drawing to win a pre-paid gas card. It’s a win-win situation.

Shopkick, similar to Foursquare, allows you to check-in to certain retailers to receive coupons and the latest deals. Shopkick partners with Macy’s, Best Buy, Target and many others to reward you for visiting their stores. You can earn gift cards and other rewards by building up your kickbucks. Kickbucks are earned through multiple activities, such as scanning barcodes of specific products and the number of times you visit each store. Shopkick is available on the iPhone and Android.

Scholarships and ScholarshipExplorer are both great apps to help you save money by getting scholarships for college. You no longer have to worry if you are missing out on an opportunity to apply for a scholarship because will deliver the latest scholarships and news about financial assistance straight to your phone. Find scholarships that match your needs through the ScholarshipExplorer app. For example, if you are hoping to attend a military friendly college, you can search for scholarships specific to aid military personnel and their dependents. These two apps make finding financial aid for college easier than ever before.
