WASHINGTON, July 5, 2013 — There are many unsung heroes who have championed causes that benefit and support the development of small businesses in this country. Personal responsibility and prosperity in particular are two of the hallmark values that business owners tend to share. One such unsung hero of these values is public policy analyst, writer, pundit and health care executive Michael Johns.
Michael was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the mid sixties during a time of unprecedented political upheaval and public unrest. As a young adult, he earned his degree in business and economics from The University of Miami. He also studied abroad during that time, completing studies in economics at the prestigious University of Cambridge.
Upon his graduation, he jumped into the political arena by joining The Heritage Foundation, the famed conservative think tank that was instrumental in formulating The Reagan Doctrine under former president Ronald Reagan. At the time, Johns focused largely on the issues of foreign policy and national security.
He worked for several high ranking political officials such as New Jersey Governor and 9/11 Commission Chairman Thomas Kean and former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe. He is best known, however, as a speech writer for former President George H. W. Bush and as a founding member of the Tea Party.
A prolific writer, Johns has written for The Wall Street Journal and The Christian Science Monitor. He has also appeared on CBS news, PBS, CNBC, Fox Morning News and C-SPAN. National Journal recommended him as one of “Ten Republicans to Follow on Twitter”.
He is a published author, having written U.S. and Africa Statistical Handbook, and contributed to Finding Our Roots, Facing Our Future: America’s 21st Century andFreedom in the World: The Annual Guide of Political Rights and Civil Liberties. Michael is an active blogger at michaeljohnsonfreedomandprosperity.blogspot.com, where he provides commentary, opinion and editorial on a wide range of issues of both national and global significance.
Michael Johns also believes in a simplified tax code that supports the freedom and liberty of American citizens. While speaking with a US conservative group, he said “We states believe this federal government is too large, too intrusive, and increasingly unaccountable to the people and that created it. We believe America is hugely overtaxed and that this is making us a less and less competitive and prosperous nation. We believe the tax code has become highly politicized and vastly too complex.”
Johns earned his stripes in the private sector as a vice president Gentiva Health Services, a publicly traded healthcare company that is the largest provider of home health care, hospice and related services in the United States. He has also held executive positions at Eli Lilly and Company and Electric Mobility Corporation.
Despite his corporate background, however, Michael Johns has been outspoken in his criticism of corporate politics that he feels infringe upon the entrepreneurial spirit of America and its people. He has also been a major proponent for the separation of government from business affairs. He railed against the Bush/Obama bailouts of major industries and has been an ardent supporter of small business development initiatives, and remains today a key proponent of genuine American values.
