NEW YORK, October 30, 2013 — The ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, is returning to national television for the first time since 1993. The largest marathon in the world, organized by New York Road Runners, is expecting 45,000 runners at the start in Staten Island on marathon morning.
But watching the national telecast is only one way to catch all the excitement from race week in the Big Apple. From NYRR’s own daily web show to ESPN coverage on TV and ABC7 streaming online, there are a few ways to bring the action into your living room.
Nationally and Internationally
“On the Run at the 2013 ING New York City Marathon” is a behind-the-scenes look at race week with in-depth stories about runners from the front of the pack to the back. Hosted by Tim Hutchings, Carrie Tollefson and yours truly, “On The Run” is an all-access pass to the world’s biggest marathon. It is the next best thing to being in New York itself.
Episodes include features on charity runners, professional athletes, on-course entertainers, volunteers, and all the people who make the marathon what it is. One runner relearned to walk after surviving a traumatic brain injury. Now he is gearing up for his first marathon. Another runner, at 93-years-old, is attempting to become the oldest New York City Marathon finisher in history. Yet another uses running to help him get into shape for the world of competitive eating. Viewers will also hear from World Champions, Olympians and the professional runners who will battle it out on the streets of New York.
