NEW YORK, December 20, 2012—On Wednesday runDisney announced the addition of the Disneyland 10K to the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend in California from August 30 to September 1, 2013. In addition, Disney is challenging runners to the Dumbo Double Dare, a feat that involves completing both the Disneyland 10K on Saturday and Disneyland Half Marathon on Sunday.

“The 10K distance is the third most popular distance for runners next to the 5K and half marathon, so this race weekend will have it all,” said runDisney Events Manager Kathleen Duran in a press release. “We are excited to continue to add different distance races so runners at every level can experience a runDisney event and run through Disney theme parks.”

The inaugural Disneyland 10K will be a timed race running through the Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks, as well as the City of Anaheim. As with all runDisney events, finishers will receive a specially designed medal.

If a 10K or half marathon isn’t enough, the new Dumbo Double Dare will keep runners busy. It follows in the footsteps of other Disney challenges like Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, which dares runners to complete both the half marathon and marathon during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and the Coast To Coast Race Challenge, which rewards runners for completing a half marathon or marathon at both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.

Disney running fans have also invented the informal Dopey Challenge, which includes tackling the 5K fun run, half marathon and marathon during Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Now in addition to “Going Goofy” and “Going Dopey,” runners can “Go Dumbo.” Dumbo Double Darers will earn a special shirt and finisher medal, in addition to the half marathon and 10K finisher swag.

The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend also includes the Family Fun Run 5K, Kids Races and a Health and Fitness Expo. It is one of seven race weekends in the runDisney series, which allows participants to run through Disney theme parks. Every runDisney event includes a 5K fun run, kids races and a race expo, in addition to the title event, which ranges from the 5K obstacle course of the Expedition Everest Challenge to a full marathon at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna.

Registration for all Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend races opens on January 22, 2013. The 2012 half marathon sold out in a little more than a month. For more information visit www.rundisney.com.
