RESTON, Va. (October 29, 2010) Women struggling with endometriosis, pelvic pain, or infertility have a new resource with the publication of Dr. Jennifer Mercier’s book, Women’s Optimal Pelvic Health with Mercier Therapy.

This past weekend, at the Freedom for Family Wellness Summit organized by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), Mercier unveiled her new book about the therapy she has developed over the past eleven years.

“I studied a lot of osteopathy,” Mercier said of the refinement of her technique. Having worked in a variety of settings, including as a fertility clinician, Mercier brings a new perspective to those trying to conceive. Gentle manipulation of the uterus and/or massage of scar tissue can make all the difference for couples wishing to become pregnant.

Mercier’s book describes her background and the challenges she’s seen couples face on the fertility road. The book details several success stories regarding pregnancy attempts and also alleviation of pelvic pain from endometriosis, past sexual abuse, or scar tissue from surgery (including c-section and appendectomies, in addition to surgery of the reproductive organs).

Mercier presented to other practitioners on the final day of the ICPA conference about how her therapy can help break up scar tissue. Throughout the conference, Mercier met with women to describe her work and even did demonstrations.

I had a c-section four years ago and a vaginal birth 12 weeks ago. Having approached Dr. Mercier about what I thought was residual ache from the spreading of my pelvis in my natural birth, I was surprised how tender my c-section scar was and how different it felt after she worked on it.

Mercier lives and practices in the Chicago area where she can treat women from out of town in an intensive 4-day weekend. Mercier also offers a 20-hour training course for licensed professionals who want to learn her technique.

This holistic mom dreams of a day when all kids -- and adults -- eat foods with only recognizable ingredients. Paying attention is not an option for me; it's a necessity.

A few years ago, my body started breaking down and let me know I wasn’t like all those other Jessicas who were still in their twenties. I began making the rounds of alternative health practitioners and nutritionists to deal with stomach problems, thyroid problems, chronic grumpiness, and infertility, issues that my doctors weren't addressing with any success. With a lot of help and a bunch of lifestyle changes, I managed to work my way back to healthy and happy. And pregnant!

Now a full-on convert to natural family living and a mom to a three-year-old, I’m on a mission to share my insights -- and my persistent questions -- about nutrition and holistic health with other moms and with anyone else looking for something that will work and feel good when other stuff doesn’t. As a leader of a local chapter of Holistic Moms Network, I've tried to build a community that supports other parents in making healthy decisions for their families.

My writing has appeared in parenting publications and poetry journals. I blog about life on the alternative/mainstream divide at Crunchy-Chewy Mama, and I'm a contributor for DC Metro Moms.
