The blurred line of conservatism

Gather 100 Republicans in a room, and you will hear 100 different answers to the problems that America faces today

FORT WORTH, April 7, 2012 – Sometimes when I hear Rick Santorum or one of the other GOP candidates say that someone is just not conservative enough, I find myself wondering, “What defines Conservatism?”

I consider myself a loyal Republican, and rather conservative, but when I hear someone say, I am the true conservative, I wonder,…”Am I missing Something?”

Is a good conservative a strong Catholic, or could it be that he or she is a good Mormon, or would a Baptist be more conservative?  It seems as if this election cycle has been defined more by religion than by policy.

If being a good conservative means that he or she is well healed financially, this would surely close the gap between the candidates, because there isn’t a poor boy in the running.

Does having a successful marriage and a large family constitute a strong conservative?  I don’t think so.  One can be married three times or be childless and still be a good conservative.

One could gather 100 Republicans in a room, and you would hear 100 different answers to the problems that America faces today.   But I would hope to find them unified in keeping a smaller government, and balancing out nations budget, and presenting a good sound platform on the unemployment.

And I would hope to find them in union that there are three branches of government, and that the Supreme Court has the authority to decide on matters regarding law and justice.

Yes, we republicans have a long way to go if we’re looking for perfection, just like those on the other side of the political isle, and mistakes will be made.   But as I look for someone to wear the conservative shoes for our Nation, I look for someone that has a love for America, and someone that will weigh every decision then ask himself….”Will this decision protect America first, and will it give each citizen hope for the future, and will this decision restore the freedom of the people.”

As we span the horizon, we see danger on every side.  Israel is faced with Iran wanting to wipe them of the face of the Earth, and the Arab Spring has turned into An Arab winter, with the Muslim Brotherhood digging in deeper in to the politics of the region, at the same time they have their eyes on us.

While all this is going on, America is in need of strong leadership, the kind of leadership that will give the people hope that the racial tensions in America can be healed, and through this leadership the “Moral Fabric’ can once again be restored in this “Great Land of Ours.”

So what is conservatism?…..I look at it this way…”It’s conserving America and insuring her Greatness”
