To The Point
Modern fencing is a full contact combat sport that is becoming increasingly popular in the US since our 2004 and 2008 Olympic medals. It is one of the original Olympic events. At it's roots this is a discipline that develops athletic ability, intelligence and social grace. It's also just pure bliss to stab someone with a sword and after the match, shake hands and walk away as friends.
Coach Ilya Lobanenkov trains and teaches at the DC Fencers Club and is a US National Bronze medalist in team event and has over 18 years of fencing experience. In this Community he will be writing about various fencing events, conducting interviews with athletes and introducing everyone to this this wonderful new trend in US Olympic Sports.
