My name is Jessica McFadden.  I'm a minivan driving, bass-booming Washington, D.C. area writer, housewife and mom to two energetic children. I believe in making the concerns and issues that effect parents and families more apparent...thus the A Parent in America title.

In addition to momming it up and writing for The Washington Times Communities, I am a freelance writer and the creator and writer of the resource blog for Washington, DC area families, A Parent in Silver Spring.  A Parent in Silver Spring.com has been kindly featured in Forbes.com as a top resource for families, as well as Voted Washington DC's Best Local Blog by Nickelodeon ParentsConnect.  A Parent in Silver Spring features a huge calendar of events and activities for parents to share with your children, as well as feature articles, interviews and reviews.

I'm a California native that moved to DC to work on Capitol Hill for a U.S. Senator, and then dished out communications counsel at a PR firm. I worked until late each night and then shook the pins out of my bleached hair and hit the town. Then I fell in love and got married and moved to the suburbs and had babies and my priorities changed. Now reporting on family matters and activities for kids means every day is take my kids to work day. It rocks.
