WASHINGTON July 8, 2012 -The Hanumen, a percussionist, mystic poet, and multi-instrumentalist group alchemize to create incredible improvisational sounds skillfully playing traditional eastern instruments with a western sensibility.
The Hanumen create a soulful and ecstatic celebration of Naada Yoga (the yoga of sacred sound and vibration) and Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of love and devotion in complete surrender) with an array of unique instruments from around the globe.
They deliver a mesmerizing participatory event of chanting, world rhythm, poignant stories and mystic poetry.

Who are The Hanumen?
Named after Hanuman, a brave monkey featured in South Asian mythology, the Hanumen (pronounced “Ha-new-men”) are: John de Kadt • Benjy Wertheimer • Gaura Vani • Purusartha Dasa.
Highly trained in the sacred music of India yet rooted in American blues, the Hanumen perform an original mix of song and story and call-and-response chant in English and Sanskrit.
What is Mantra Music?
Mantra Music is a reincarnation of the ancient Indian practice of Kirtan: call-and-response group chanting, practiced for millennia by the people of South Asia.
Today, this music offers a fresh perspective on holistic entertainment as participants both hear the music as an audience and help to create it responding with their own voices.
GauraVani comes to D.C.
Kicking off an East Coast tour with a first stop in Washington D.C. The Hanumen usually perform in other regions of the world. For this apperance, area resident Gauravani is said to be excited about the event, as it’s a rare opportunity to perform in the town he resides in.
