Marina Del Ray, January 16th, 2012- Vegan tri-athlete and Vega founder Brendan Brazier has launched a new plant based meal delivery service, Thrive Foods Direct, for those with active lifestyles and busy schedules.
Thrive Foods Direct prepares all dishes according to the nutritional principals in Braziers Thrive Book series: Organic, alkaline-forming, plant-based whole food, which can aid in: Reducing body fat • better sleep • lower cholesterol • reduced risk of disease • enhanced athletic performance and recovery time.
The project took fruition after constant feedback to Brazier stating the same thing: “I love the recipes, I love the food, but there is never enough time…” A common issue for all, but a real quandary for those needing optimal ‘fuel’ for athletics, weight loss, or just to enhance their overall quality of life.
Brazier had this to say about his Thrive Foods Direct:
Adam Omkara: Who did you design this for?
Brendan Brazier: Well, this is for people who read my Thrive Diet book- who have felt good, gotten results, but perhaps don’t have the time, inclination, or know how to put it all together on a continuous basis- so this allows people to be able to continue eating this way. People would say to me all the time “I’d eat this way all the time if someone cooked for me”, so this is my response.
And of course with Athletes: NFL and NHL players who have their chefs prepare Thrive Diet meals for them at home, now they can have thrive diet meals mailed to their hotel room when they are on the road during the season.
So this was really my motivation- making it more accesable, available, and convenient for those in need.
AO: So people perhaps new to eating “plant based”, what can you tell them to expect from the meals?
Brazier: Well, they are going to be complete- so you don’t have to worry about not getting enough protein, essential fats etc. It covers all the bases, but it also is a great built in cleanse, as it cleanses you as you go.
So it’s a great transition tool also- you can start off with it just a few days a week and ease into it.
AO: And where is all being prepared and shipped from?
Brazier: It’s made in Marina Del Ray, California. It’s all certified organic and prepared in a state of the art kitchen.
Some people worry about the carbon footprint, but we actually buy all the food directly from the farmers and it gets shipped straight to us. If you were buying from Whole Foods, it would get shipped a few places before it even made it there. So there really is no extra carbon footprint, and we actually cut a step out of the process.
AO: Anything else you would want to mention about the service?
Brazier: Well, just that it takes the guesswork out of it.
It’s convenient, and you can even get it on the road and you don’t have to commit to any more then 5 days at once. If you’re going on a business trip and you aren’t sure on your food choices you can just have it shipped to your hotel.
It’s extremely flexible that way….
