NEW YORK, October 18, 2011 — Tension mounted again over the weekend in New York city with Occupy Wall Street moving to Times Square for its massive protest. Police, some in riot gear, got violent again with protesters using metal batons on crowds and issuing mass arrests.
With the smell of police brutality again in the air, an on the scene ex-marine Sergeant (Shamer Thomas, who served with the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion USMC in Iraq) went into a tirade against the cops. An irate Thomas angrily lashed out at police and stated:
“This is not a war zone- these are unarmed people, it doesn’t make you tough to hurt these people!” Thomas went on later to state: “I was involved in a riot in Rutbah Iraq in 2004, and we did not treat the Iraqi citizens like they are treating the unarmed civilians in our own country”
Thomas is part of the OCCUPYmarines that organized and have come to aid and protect the Occupy Wall Street protestors. Since its illegal for active marines to participate, all OCCUPYmarines are retired from active duty.
As a follow up to the incident, Retired Sergeant Shamer Thomas went on to write: “I took an oath that I live by. I am not anti-NYPD. I am not anti-police brutality. I am no longer under contract with the USMC, so I do not have to follow military uniform regulations. I do not affiliate myself with any groups of political organizations.”
“”I affiliate myself with the American People; that’s it. I refuse to affiliate with anything that separates! There is an obvious problem in this country and peaceful people should be allowed to protest without brutality. No one was brutalized [in Iraq] because our mission was to ‘win the hearts and minds.’ Why should I expect anything less in my own country?”
