DENVER, June 22, 2011 — Film critics love Pixar movies as much as the general public does. Maybe more.
Check out the stats over at RottenTomatoes.com, the main review aggregator on the web, regarding the most recent Pixar releases:
“Toy Story 3” - 99 percent fresh
“Ratatouille” - 96 percent fresh
Screeeech! That 2006 Pixar film featured talking cars, a tough sell by most standards. Yet it still earned a rating most studios would take in a heartbeat.
But even the hottest of hot streaks must end.
“Cars 2,” opening June 24 nationwide, currently holds a 52 percent rating at RottenTomatoes.com.
The AP’s Christy Lemire dubs the film “a mess.” Marshall Fine calls it “a rotten egg.”
More reviews will be added to the site in the days to come, so it’s possible that figure could go up or down a bit soon.
Let’s not let a few negative reviews detract from the big picture. No film studio generates as much timeless material as Pixar. None. And even if “Cars 2” disappoints, it doesn’t diminish the company’s historic film achievements.
