HOUSTON, December 22, 2012 - Week 16 of the NFL is already here and this Sunday is a must win for the Redskins as they battle the Eagles in Philadelphia. Starting their current winning streak in week 11 when they faced the Eagles and annihilated them 31-6, the Redskins are on their longest winning streak, five games, since 2007 and need to keep the momentum going if they are going to make it to the playoffs.
Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) was out the last game, with backup QB Kirk Cousins filling his shoes. Cousins did do a phenomenal job against the Browns last week. RG3 had a successful practice this last Wednesday and if all goes well he is expected to be cleared to play this Sunday.
But whether RG3 or Cousins is the QB, the Redskins are slated to be the favorite to win.
Michael Vick will be out the sixth consecutive game due to a concussion received during the Cowboys game on week 10. Eagles backup QB Nick Foles started his first NFL game the following week when they faced the Redskins. Foles has done a bit better since his debut but they still have lost the majority of their games, four out of the last five, since he started for the Eagles. Foles’ limited experience won’t be enough to spoil the Redskins chance at the playoffs. If RG3 starts then it’s going to be a long afternoon for the Eagles rushing defense.
Cousins isn’t going to provide a picnic for the Eagles as well, if he ends up playing, but no matter who is the QB they will have running back Alfred Morris behind them. Alfred Morris has had 280 rushing attempts this season, for a total of 1,322 yards; and he’s a frontrunner for the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Wide receiver’s Santana Moss and Pierre Garcon have also produced this season and will be a threat to the Eagles as well. Look for the Redskins to come away with another victory against the Eagles, although this time the game should be a bit closer.
