Newt Gingrich plays race card on Trayvon Martin tragedy

“My main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin,” Obama added. “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.” (President Obama/National Journal)

CHICAGO, March 24, 2012 — Newt Gingrich is not running for president of the United States. Newt is running to be the Cheap Shot in Chief. Maybe he should be called Cheapshot Gingrich.  This part of president’s comments on the Trayvon Martin incident threw Cheapshot into full-blown apoplectic gasbaggery mode.

The president expressed his condolences and gave a statement that most intelligent people across racial and ethnic lines understand and identify with. He had no obligation to make that statement. If he did it on his own or was politically pressured is irrelevant. President Obama did the right and honorable thing by expressing sympathy and empathy. It is what any decent person would do.

Credit must be given where credit is due. President Obama let people know he is human, a parent, and feels for parents who lost their child, especially in a very controversial and shocking manner. This is one statement the president should not be criticized for.

This is one time Gingrich should have kept his mouth shut.

Gingrich being Gingrich could not resist the opportunity to take a cheap shot, throw the rhetorical bomb.

Newt Gingrich called President Obama’s comments on the Trayvon Martin killing “disgraceful” and “appalling” on the Sean Hannity show. Newt is trying to gin the president’s comments up as some kind of Anti-American insanity. He has taken racial and political rhetoric to a new low.

The cheap shot artist carefully couched his gasbaggery in pseudo-patriotic American mumbo jumbo.

“Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot, that would be OK because it didn’t look like him. That’s just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point, we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American, it is sad for all Americans. Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

Newt is no patriot. Using a tragedy like this for cheap shot politics demeans what being American is about.

Newt Gingrich threw down the race card, not the president. He should not be allowed to get away with it.

If the president had remained mute on the issue, Gingrich would have thought that was appalling and disgraceful. Newt is an embarrassment to the American people, the Republican Party and conservatives of all stripes. He has given up whatever privilege he had to run for public office.

Republicans should come out hard and fast to slam Newt for his comments. His GOP competitors should hit him harder and faster.

This is not the first time Newt has taken cheap shots. He is appalled and disgusted at everything his opponents, his party, and the president do or say. If they say it is a nice day, he will attack and throw out cheap shots.

President Obama has made many controversial statements people can be appalled at, disgusted with, disappointed in, or consider disgraceful. So have his predecessors.

Presidents, like all politicians, make controversial statements.

Newt Gingrich is throwing racial gasoline on an already blazing fire. Newt should be accused of hatred, spite, and being insensitive. He is no better than Al Shaprton.

Newt Gingrich cannot give any semblance to being presidential. This man would be an unmitigated disaster and an embarrassment as president. Every time he’d open his mouth he would demean the nation.

Gingrich, running for president as a Republican already damaged the party. He spent the campaign lashing out at what he called the “Republican establishment”.  This latest cheap shot damaged their brand even more. If they need an excuse to turn their backs on him he just gave them the best one.

Gingrich should not even be allowed to attend their convention, let alone play any part in it. He would just embarrass the party even more.

Gingrich is a weapon of mass self-destruction. Unfortunately, his cheap shots, below the belt tactics, and playing the race card create collateral damage. It is not bad enough he is self-imploding but he is taking others with him.

Newt Gingrich may have all kinds of degrees. He is living proof that attending schools and completing courses of study to get those pieces of paper have nothing to do with intelligence or intellectual capacity.

Cheapshot Gingrich is not fit to be the President of the United States. Cheapshot Gingrich is not fit to be president of a deserted island.

If Mitt Romney is an Etch-A-Sketch, Cheapshot Gingrich is Mr. Potato Head.
