Chicago, February 25, 2012— During the past month and through the second week of March campuses and cities all over the world are sponsoring the eighth annual Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW). The “week” is spread out to insure the advocates can be present in the most places.
The purpose of this international gathering(s) is to paint Israel as a racist, bigoted, apartheid nation. The organizers want the whole world to watch them condemn Israel for the crime of existing and enlist others in their cause.
Pro-Palestinian groups, advocates for terrorist groups, self-loathing Jewish anti-Zionists, and other fellow travelers will lecture on the evils of Israel. Naïve youth and bored, burned out, tortured souls of activist movements looking for a new moral purpose or moral compass will be the primary attendees, having their awareness raised, no doubt.
The Anti-Defamation League calls these yearly events virulently anti-Israel. They claim IAW expresses anti-Semitism and support for terrorist groups including Hamas and Hezbollah.
One of Israel’s harshest critics, and a former supporter of IAW, has turned against it. Lecturer Norman Finklestein “loathed the movement’s duplicity and disingenuousness in hiding the fact that a large part of its membership wants to eliminate Israel.” He refers to them as a cult.
IAW organizers are demanding sanctions, boycotts, protests, divestments, and other tools of professional protesters to bring down Israel. One of their idols is former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Carter titled one of his least sellers, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid.
The primary objective of IAW is BDS- boycotts, divestment, and sanctions- against Israel. The goal is to create a global BDS movement, similar to the international BDS sanctions against apartheid South Africa decades ago.
IAW is a nothing but a poor excuse to sow hatred, racism, Anti-Semitism, divisiveness, hostility, and terrorism. They are perpetrators big lie propaganda.
The organizers are willfully blind to real abuses in various Middle East, African and other Muslim countries.
They conveniently choose to ignore the perfectly legal and constitutional religious bigotry in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Uganda, Nigeria, Libya, and others. They choose to ignore the harsh, violent, and deadly religious persecution and genocide going on in those countries.
But they are not Israel, where none of that happens. Israel is the freest and most democratic country in the region. People from all religions, races, and lifestyles are allowed to live without exclusion or punishment for who or what they are. The Knesset and Supreme Court are multi-cultural, as is the military.
Is Israel perfect? Of course not. We’ve been practicing this so-called Democracy thing for well over 230 years and we still don’t have it right. It is not called the American Experiment for nothing.
So it makes nosense to demand Israel be labeled an apartheid nation. It makes no sense to laud those who support, advocate, and promote IAW as practitioners of enlightenment, racial and religious tolerance, and freedom.
Maybe there should be a Muslim Country Persecution Week- MCPW. People could organize against vandal, Anti-Semitic, Anti-Christian, racist, and terrorist states.
States, where it is illegal, some on penalty of death, to practice any other religion but Islam. States where women have few or no rights are subject to torture and death for minor religious offenses. States where gays are routinely executed, some by lynching or beheading. States where genital mutilation is the norm.
Now if anyone did advocate Arab or Muslim Country Persecution Week they would be branded an Islamophobic. There would be the usual death threats, calls for violence, threats of terrorism, and so-called responsible concerned people advising against it. Our own government would strongly discourage anyone from this because violence might break out all over the world.
When it comes to freedom of speech and expression, some things are strongly discouraged by our Islamophilic government to the point of repression.
If you persisted in your efforts to propose MCPW you would probably be put under surveillance and placed on no-fly lists. Your organization would be listed as a hate group. This president may even apologize to Arab and Muslim countries while promising to hold the organizers accountable.
Israeli Apartheid Week states they are not anti-Semitic or racist. We are supposed to believe them because, well, they say so. Even if they preach the typical Zionist conspiracy theories tin foil hats around the world believe and promote, they should be given the benefit of the doubt.
IAW purposely uses Apartheid to appeal to the ignorant and illiterate. It is a purposeful use of the wrong term to arouse anger.
Apartheid is defined as inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them.
Albert Camus said “To call things by incorrect names is to add to the world’s misery”.
Apartheid, as practiced in South Africa, was one of the most evil, demonizing, and dehumanizing practices in modern history. To accuse Israel of apartheid is not only wrong it’s an irresponsible and inflammatory ploy. It only adds to the world’s misery.
