“It is now clear that this will be a two-person race between the conservative leader, Newt Gingrich, and the Massachusetts moderate.” (Newt Gingrich)
CHICAGO, February 2, 2012— Can somebody, anybody, please explain what Newt Gingrich is the leader of? Is it a movement, occupation, or party? What exactly is Newt Gingrich leading?
There is no such thing as “the conservative leader.” There is no Conservative Party for him to lead. There is no conservative leader. There is only the Republican Party, which is lead by Reince Priebus, who was elected to his leadership post.
Was there some secret, ritualistic conclave of conservatives who declared New Gingrich the conservative leader? Did white smoke flow from a chimney so adoring throngs could cheer their new leader? Is Gingrich the father of the holy conservative church?
Someone should tell the self-proclaimed leader that he’s running in the Republican primary. There is no conservative primary. Newt conveniently forgets to mention he is running for the Republican nomination. In his prurient conservative enthusiasm, Gingrich omits Republican or Republican Party.
That must make the elected leadership of RNC bang their heads against the wall.
Newt has led nothing for years. Since he discovered New Media, he has been a shameless self-promoter of his books, movies, videos, and speeches, all for which he is very well paid. Newt is also a K Street influence peddler, a paid mercenary of the evil special-interest groups hypocrites from both parties rail against.
Newt, like most modern historians, revises history to fit his ever-evolving ideology and personal needs. He elides over the fact he was ousted from his leadership position in the House in disgrace. He later decided to quit politics to become an influence peddler and political huckster.
The Republican Party made it very clear they would not follow Newt off a cliff. So Newt took his ball, bat, and gloves and went home.
Newt quit. Gingrich is a quitter, not a leader.
Now the quitter wants to be president, the Quitter in Chief. Leadership is not an entitlement. Like respect, it must be earned. Newt has a delusion of grandiose entitlement matching his ego. He believes his long ago past entitles him to be the leader of a nation.
Newt is not a conservative, let alone a leader of anything. No one knows what Newt Gingrich is. He is a constantly evolving political being. Newts are amphibians. So are chameleons. Maybe Gingrich should change his first name.
If Newt Gingrich is anything, he is an opportunist. He will do, say, or produce anything to keep him in the spotlight and boost his income. If anyone is dangerous and extremist, it is Newt Gingrich. Just listen to his delusional rants and raves.
Newt Gingrich is an opportunist leader running against Republicans.
Newt gives the illusion that he, and he alone, was responsible for Republican accomplishments and achievements during his congressional tenure. If you listen to all his “I did this, I did that,” and “I created those,” one would could be led to believe there was only one member of Congress and no president to sign the legislation.
That has to chafe all the Republicans who did the heavy lifting on his behalf, putting their careers on the line, and the president who signed off on them. It is a good bet Bill Clinton is chomping at the bit to go after Newt and correct the record and history.
Unlike Gingrich, Clinton is still widely popular and respected by independent voters, swing voters, and Democrats, blocs Gingrich needs to get elected.
For some strange reason, people who should know better take him seriously. This is dangerous. It demonstrates that too many in the electorate are gullible, susceptible, or desperate. They are voting with their emotions instead of their intelligence.
Gullible conservatives may love Newt. Susceptible archconservatives may love Newt. Desperate conservative voters may idolize Newt. But there are not enough tin foil hat voters for Gingrich to win the White House.
Newt Gingrich cannot beat President Obama, in any debate or the general election. No intelligent voter wants to replace one supposed extremist, dangerous president with another, more extreme, more dangerous president.
No intelligent voter wants to replace one absolutist president with another one. Newt is Obama is Newt.
There is little difference between the sitting president and Newt Gingrich. A wild-eyed conspiracy theorist could make the case that Team Obama put Gingrich in the race to ensure the president’s victory and there will be a payoff at the end.
“In the greatest tradition of our founding document, I will pledge you, my life, my fortune and my sacred honor, if you help me on Tuesday…” (Newt Gingrich)
The signers of the Declaration of Independence, the source of that quote, were serious, deadly serious. They literally risked their lives, their freedom, and their fortunes. They were honorable men.
Newt Gingrich will not willingly be arrested or executed. He will not willingly live a life of abject poverty, as his considerable fortune is not at risk. Newt Gingrich has no honor to pledge, let alone sacred honor.
You cannot pledge what you do not have or are really not willing to lose.
