“No one should feel sorry for me,” Reid told reporters in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon.
“The issue that I raised has nothing to do with me,” he continued. “It has everything to do with the first presidential candidate in more than 30 years who refuses to show the American people his income tax returns.” (The Hill)
CHICAGO, August 7, 2012 — Like a venereal disease epidemic, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is the gift that keeps on giving.
Harry Reid remains obstreperous over his irresponsible accusations that Mitt Romney did not pay taxes for ten years.
Feel sorry for him? Dirty Harry must be descending into the same depth of decrepitude as Joe “Babbling Blunder” Biden. No one could, should, or would ever feel sorry for Harry Reid. Reid is a politician, a dirty politician. He is Dirty Harry. Dirty Harry wants Mitt Romney to make his day.
The fact that Dirty Harry raised the issue over Romney’s taxes has everything to do with him, and him alone. This is the first time in recent memory that a Senate leader has made vile and scurrilous accusations, playing dirty politics, from the well of the Senate. The institution of the Senate was defiled by Reid’s action.
“The burden is not on me,” he said. “It’s on Romney to produce his income tax returns. This man is running for president. We should know more about him.
“Listen, Romney can solve this problem very quickly,” Reid continued. “Produce the tax returns.” (The Hill)
The entire burden and onus is on Harry Reid. Dirty Harry made the allegation. He is the accuser. Reid gave the stamp of government approval and officialdom to his accusations. Dirty Harry sunk as low as former Senator “Tail Gunner” Joe McCarthy. Reid is a disgrace to the United States Senate and our system of government.
Make no mistake. Through Dirty Harry, the United States government made an abusive accusation against a United States citizen. When Reid entered the well of the Senate to make his gross accusation, he was not citizen Reid. He was not Reid the politician. He was not Harry Reid of the Democratic Party. He was Senator Harry Reid, an official of the United States government, on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator McCarthy would have been proud.
Under color of Reid’s office and the auspices of the United States Senate, the United States Senate accused Mitt Romney of not paying his taxes. Mitt Romney is innocent until proven guilty by his government. He does not have to prove or provide anything. The government does. The United States Senate does. Dirty Harry does.
It is on Reid to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, with documentation and evidence, that Romney did not pay taxes for ten years. He must indentify his old real or imaginary friend, who allegedly has the proof. That person, if he or she exists, must testify or be deposed, and must provide documentation to back up his or her tale.
We must know more about this dark stranger. Who is this man of mystery, this secret snitch, this Deep Throat?
Dirty Harry can solve this problem very quickly. He can and should immediately indentify his friend, bring the evidence, documentation, and testimony to light.
Dirty Harry is ready for a fight if Republicans make his finances the subject of inquiry. Really? How did Dirty Harry, on the government dole his whole life, raising a family and educating children, amass a fortune valued between $7 and $10 million dollars, depending on whose figures you believe?
Did Dirty Harry use pay-to-play politics or patronage to enrich himself? Did Dirty Harry use his various state and federal positions for the financial benefit of Harry Reid? He deserves severe scrutiny.
In the case of Romney, Dirty Harry is the official government accuser. This is no longer politics as usual. Reid used Senate and his official position as a United States Senator to make the accusations. Dirty Harry shot from the lip and shot himself in the foot with his .44 Magnum mouth, the most powerful mouth in politics.
Dirty Harry started this fight, not Mitt Romney, not the Republicans, not the media. It is Dirty Harry’s job to finish it. Provide the documentation. Identify his old friend. Prove the accusation. Or, suffer the consequences of constant embattlement over the accusation and his personal finances.
Extreme pressure should be kept on Reid to produce the goods by the media, the GOP, and the public. Dirty Harry should not be allowed to get away with this malicious and vituperative official allegation. Day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute, the media should bomb Dirty Harry and his staff with questions, emails, queries, and demands until he proves the accusation.
The media, the public, and the GOP should be merciless in their attacks until Dirty Harry comes clean.
Dirty Harry thinks he is immune from and above all criticism, scrutiny, or questioning of his integrity and honesty. If he says it, it must be true. Just ask Nancy Pelosi, who made that very statement.
No one really believes Dirty Harry except the tin foil hats and true believers. Dirty Harry’s accusations are as low as McCarthyism. They are vicious, and reckless. They show citizens a United States Senate out of control, out of touch, and out of bounds.
Dirty Harry is a man whose cruelty and recklessness have never been gauged. Dirty Harry is a man who would use any type of character assassination under the cloak of government. Dirty Harry, you’ve done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?
