Chicago Teacher's Union president Karen Lewis disgusting behavior

“People are impressed,” Lewis riffs. “Let me tell you, I spent those (college) years, smoking lots of weed, self-medicating, self-medicating. Thank you. Sounds like you all did, too. I’m, sorry — there are kids here. I wasn’t supposed to say that — right? Too late.” (Chicago Sun Times)

Chicago, November 16, 2011- That was Chicago Teachers Union president, and American Federation of Teachers vice president, Karen Lewis. She was giving the keynote address at the Northwest Teaching for Social Justice conference in Seattle on October 1st of this year. By the way, what is teaching for social justice? Why do people have to teach it?

Ms. Lewis also made what can be described as a homophobic slur about U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, for which she has since apologized.

Karen Lewis is a good soul,” Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, said in a statement. “She did the right thing by apologizing to Secretary Duncan. Karen regrets what she said and I regret it.” (Huffington Post)

He regrets it so much hasn’t asked for her resignation. Ms. Lewis behavior is expected of union officials. They can act like disgusting fools and no one dare criticize them. She’s a good soul? Look at the video below and judge for yourself.

Lewis is described as a former stand-up comedian. She should have stayed in show business. She could have teamed up with Andrew Dice Clay. Who?

Karen Lewis found the perfect occupation in running a union. Those who can’t do, teach, and those who can’t teach run teacher’s unions.

This is the woman who touts herself as an education expert but has fought against any common sense reforms in the education system. Reforms that would benefit children. Make no mistake. Karen Lewis is not dedicated to education or children. She is soley dedicated to teachers and the tax increases that only benefit them.

The education system, as we continually learn, is not about the kids. It is all about the teachers, especially the teachers who move into the bureaucratic profession. The inmates are running the asylum. Teacher’s unions have great input into what your kids learn and how they learn it. You, as parents have no say, even if you are smarter than they are.

Kids don’t vote and parents are to busy to protest. They don’t even protest when taxes go up to fund their continually failing school systems. They never ask where the money goes. They never comprehend that we do not need more and more money for education.

It is no longer how much money we spend. It is how we spend the money. In the case of Chicago and other urban areas, it is a case of how the money is wasted.

Ms. Lewis demands respect. She does not care to earn it. She boasts she is an educational expert and deserves it. Well, schools are failing and it is her members teaching in them. Maybe we need different kinds of experts.

For almost sixty years, the Chicago Public School system has been on a roller coaster ride of reform. All with the teacher’s union trying to sabotage it. Nothing has changed much since the 1950s, when Chicago had one of the worst school systems in the nation. The stats are just as bad now as they were in 1955.

Karen Lewis is an embarrassment to the profession of teaching and as an executive of an entity of professionals. She is the antithesis of professional. She should resign. But that will not happen.

People like her are lauded, praised, respected, and welcomed. Why is a mystery. Well, not really. They use union money and bundling to buy politicians like farmers used to buy mules. They they make those politicians do what they want. Which is usually fighting any common sense meaningful reform and generating tax increases to waste more of our money. On broken educational systems.

Karen Lewis’ idea of education reform is teachers working less hours for more pay, and, more teachers leaving the classroom to enter the bureaucratic world, where they have the power to run the system. Right into the ground.

People should be appalled at Ms. Lewis behavior. Not only in Chicago, but nationwide. She represents everything that’s wrong with our educational system today and with unions. Unions should be doubly appalled. We expect them to act like common thugs, but we do not expect such despicable behavior.

But, all will be forgotten. She is back here in Chicago, or someplace, causing more mayhem. She will be welcomed at City Hall, churches, luncheons, and other places where the elites meet. They will take her seriously.

Karen Lewis embarrassed herself, she embarrassed the teachers she supposedly represents, she embarrassed the two unions she holds offices in, and she embarrassed the educational establishment.

She will probably get some kind of a major achievement award.
