WASHINGTON, DC, November 12, 2013 — Two women who embezzled money from a local Virginian middle and high school are behind bars this morning.
Fairfax police arrested Sonya Swansbrough, 46, of Woodbridge, and Bethany Speed, 38, of Burke, yesterday for embezzlement and money laundering. Swansbrough was formerly Principal at Poe Middle School, and Speed was an administrative employee at Jeb Stuart High School. The two are believed to have taken close to $100,000 since May 2010 by falsifying timesheets, according to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and the Fairfax Financial Crimes Unit.
Swansbrough’s son Brenton Rusnak, 20, of Radford was also arrested for receiving stolen property.
