WASHINGTON, DC, December 11, 2013 — For local Alexandria, Virginia poets, there are 25 days left to see your words driving across the city.

In collaboration with the Alexandria Transit Company, the City of Alexandria Office of the Arts has announced a poetry contest, “DASHing Words in Motion.” The contest is open for all writers who live, work or study in the City of Alexandria, as long as poems reflect “words and transportation.”

The winners of the inaugural contest will see their poems published inside the Alexandria Transit Company’s DASH buses and trolleys starting April 2014 to celebrate National Poetry Month. The City of Alexandria Poet Laureate, the Alexandria Commission for the Arts and the Alexandria City Public Schools helped sponsor the contest.

Submissions are due at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014.
