Week 2 preview: who will go home first on Dancing With The Stars?

DL Hughley better improve or he will make an early exit. Lisa Vanderpump and Wynonna should worry too. See our Week 1 slideshow review. Photo: Dancing With The Stars Week 1 Cast / ABC Photo Adam Taylor

SAN DIEGO – March 25, 2013 – It’s sure to be a high-energy night on “Dancing With The Stars” on Monday night. All three dances being performed by the couples on Monday night are fast paced: the Jive, the Quickstep and for the first time on Dancing With The Stars competiton, Jazz.

The couples will be challenged by the speed of these dances. It’s speed that sets the high quality dancers apart from the also-rans. All of the dances require crisp footwork, kicks, and great flow across the dance floor. These styles also require the competitors to project plenty of personality and style.

Kellie Pickler, Andy Dick, and Jacoby Jones all drew the new style, Jazz. The advantage here goes to Kellie Pickler, who has the advantage of dancing with the show’s best choreographer, Derek Hough.

Victor Oritz, Lisa Vanderpump, Zendaya, Sean Lowe, and Dorothy Hamill have drawn the Jive.  This style should suit the well-conditioned dancers, boxer Ortiz and teenager Zendaya. Lisa Vanderpump may have a meltdown if her Pomeranian can’t dance with her. Hamill will have to summon her athlete’s training and try to make it through a tough minute and a half. Sean Lowe should survive, as partner Peta Murgatroyd will do a good job putting together a routine for them.

Ingo Rademacher, Aly Raisman, DL Hughley, and Wynonna dance the Quickstep. The Quickstep is precise and will present a challenge to rookie dancers still learning good ballroom technique. Rademacher and Raisman should get through it. Hughley and Wynonna will struggle, and will have to hope their fans save them on Tuesday night if the judges’ scores aren’t any better for them both than in week one.

Real Housewife Lisa Vanderpump was in the bottom third of the leaderboard with Wynonna, Hughley, and Andy Dick last week. Andy Dick may do better with the Jazz style this week; he and partner Cheryl Burke will likely get enough fan votes to help save them, leaving the other three to fight from being eliminated.

The dance order could help one of the struggling couples, since competitors who dance later in the show generally benefit from better scores, and fans remember the couples who dance later in the show. The only couple whose dance order is known at press time is Hughley and Burke, who dance next to last, 11th of the 12 couples. Communities will update as more placements are reported.

You can vote via text message using the last four numbers for any couple.
