Kenya and Washington Navy Yard: The cost of being defenseless

We see time and time again what happens when people are defenseless against criminals. Why do liberals want Americans defenseless? Photo: AP Photos

WASHINGTON, September 23, 2013 — At first glance, the terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Kenya and the mass murder at the Washington Navy Yard would not seem to have anything in common.

Actually, they have one terrible fact in common.

Both crimes occurred in defense free zones.

In Kenya, draconian gun control is in effect. In Kenya, if you want to merely own a gun, you have to fill out myriad applications and show a specified need for you to own a gun.

The terrorists from al-Shabaab knew this when they rolled into that mall in Kenya. The poor victims at the mall did not know it at the time, but they were bringing bare fists to a gunfight.

The al-Shabaab terrorists knew the chances of anyone at the mall being armed were nil, so they would have an easy time accomplishing their mission.

Demented mass murderer Aaron Alexis knew the same thing about the Washington Navy Yard. He followed Joe Biden’s advice, got a shotgun and used that shotgun on armed guards, then took their pistols. The Washington Navy Yard was crawling with current and former military personnel who have had fire arms training. But none of them had weapons to return fire because the Washington Navy Yard, like all of Washington DC, is a gun free zone.

Barack Obama is right in the middle of those who want Americans to be defenseless. At a politicized memorial service at the Washington Navy Yard, Obama said he could not accept that Americans have gun rights.

That is too bad, Mr. Obama. America’s rights are not yours to take.

There is a reason our founding fathers enshrined the Second Amendment into the Constitution. There is also a reason why they wanted a very limited Chief Executive.

Unless you live in a fact free zone, like Barack Obama does, the truth is self-evident. Armed citizens stop crimes.

Less than a year ago, a criminal named Jacob Roberts started shooting at the Clackamas Town Center in Clackamas County, Oregon. A citizen lawfully carrying a gun drew his weapon and stopped the shooting. The citizen did not even have to fire a shot.

Last December, an off duty San Antonio police officer with her own weapon shot a man who was shooting up a San Antonio movie theater.

Every day in America, citizens who have guns stop crimes. Every day in America, citizens who are armed are able to protect themselves and others.

Why would anyone want American citizens to be disarmed?

The cold hard truth is that America is loaded with soft targets like the Westgate Mall.

It is no longer a question of if, but when jihadists will attack soft targets in America. If Barack Obama and the Democrats have their way, American citizens will be just like the Kenyans. They will be forced to fight armed attackers with nothing but their bare hands.

Criminals and jihadists both ignore gun free zones. In fact, both welcome gun free zones as target rich environments.

Gun control has failed repeatedly. Gun ownership has repeatedly deterred or stopped crime.

So can someone explain why liberals are so obsessed with making Americans defenseless?

A lawyer by profession, Judson has been involved in politics since his teens. “Ronald Reagan inspired me,” he says.

Judson became involved in the Tea Party movement in February 2009 after hearing Rick Santelli’s rant on CNBC.   “I heard there was going to be a Tea Party in Chicago inspired by Santelli, but didn’t know if anyone was doing a rally in Nashville where I was based.  Finally I emailed Michelle Malkin and asked her if there was a Tea Party in Nashville.  Malkin sent an email back saying, ‘No, why don’t you organize one?’  I did.”

The first Tea Party in Nashville was held late February 2009 which drew a crowd of about 600. Judson then organized the Tax Day Tea Party in Nashville, which drew over 10,000 people into downtown.   It was at this time that Tea Party Nation was formed.  Later that year, Judson decided to bring activists from across the country together, so he organized the first National Tea Party Convention in February 2010, which featured Alaska’s former Governor and Republican Vice Presidential Nominee, Sarah Palin as it’s keynote speaker.

He currently manages the Tea Party Nation website, writes several daily columns and is working on more projects than any one person should.  He is a frequent guest on cable and broadcast news shows, including on Fox, MSNBC, CNN and others.
