The Tea Party and 2014: Repeal Obamacare, end fraud, cut energy costs

WASHINGTON, December 10, 2013 — The Tea Party is very fond of quoting the founding fathers. There is one of the founding fathers that is not quoted enough: Benjamin Franklin, who once opined, “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.”

The Tea Party must have a plan or an agenda for 2014.

The Republicans have a plan for 2014. The Democrats have a plan. If the Tea Party cannot offer a serious plan for 2014, then it can forget about getting people into office who can bring about the changes for freedom and liberty that real Americans want.

What should that agenda be?

It should be a few simple items that people can understand and that can be easily messaged.

First, Obamacare must be completely repealed. Obamacare is not only destroying the ability of American to keep health insurance coverage, it is destroying full time employment.

Obamacare’s employer mandate penalizes employers who hire full time employees. So what do rational employers do? They hire more part time employees. There is a reason why almost every job created in 2013 so far has been a part time job.

The Tea Party needs to go out and tell every unemployed American the reason you are unemployed is because of Obamacare. The messaging is simple. Do you want to get back to work? If so, Obamacare must go

Before the Great Obama Depression, millions of real Americans worked two jobs. Before Obama it was to get ahead. Now millions work two jobs simply to stay afloat. If Barack Obama taught us anything during the 2012 election, it is that free stuff is hard to beat. So let’s give Americans something they deserve. That is, the fruits of their labors.

Millions of Americans are working two jobs. Let them declare one of their jobs to be tax exempt. Whichever job someone picks to be tax exempt will not only not have the wages from that job taxed; there will be no withholding either. Let hard working Americans keep every dime they earn from one of their jobs and not be forced to pay in taxes to a bloated federal government or at best give the government an interest free loan.

If there is one thing Americans hate across the board, it is government waste and fraud. The only place that is not true is in the halls of power in Washington.

A Tea Party agenda should include the creation of a Government Realignment and Closure Commission, modeled on the Base Realignment and Closure Committee that has been used on the military.

The GRAC should go through the non-defense budget looking for waste, fraud, abuse, pork barrel spending, duplicated programs and programs that have simply failed and target them for elimination. The GRAC report would go to Congress for a straight up or down vote. Powerful interests could not amend the report to protect their pet spending. Then, if that bill passes, it goes to the President for signature or veto.

Finally, one important part of a Tea Party agenda must be the elimination of one of the worst taxes on the nation for which we can thank the Obama Regime.

Before Barack Obama was elected, he pledged a war on energy. And he has fought that war. When Obama took office in 2009, gas was $1.80 a gallon. Today it is almost twice as high and has shot up to over $4 a gallon on a couple of occasions.

High energy costs are a hidden tax on the American people. It hurts the poor and middle class with higher prices for everything. It hurts businesses and manufacturers, forcing them to raise their prices and sometimes go out of business.

The final item on a Tea Party agenda should be a pledge and a goal. The pledge will be to eliminate the regulations Obama’s EPA has imposed on the energy sector and if necessary, defund the EPA to allow us to exploit American resources. The permitting process should be radically streamlined and areas of energy production that the Obama Regime has placed off limits should be opened up.

The pledge to America and the goal should be to have $1 a gallon gas by January 1, 2016.

Cutting the cost of energy would be a stimulus to the economy and would help millions of real Americans by cutting their personal expenses every month.

America is fed up with Barack Obama and the Party of Treason. Unfortunately, nothing will be done about them unless the Tea Party and conservatives offer a clear vision for America.

In 1980, Ronald Reagan offered America a clear vision for the future and America embraced him. In 1994, Newt Gingrich offered a clear vision for the future and America embraced his Contract With America.

As we go into 2014, we need to offer a clear vision for America so that America will once again, embrace the Tea Party.

Judson Phillips is the founder of Tea Party Nation, one of the largest Tea Party Groups in the country and the number one national tea party site on the Internet.

A lawyer by profession, Judson has been involved in politics since his teens. “Ronald Reagan inspired me,” he says.

Judson became involved in the Tea Party movement in February 2009 after hearing Rick Santelli’s rant on CNBC.   “I heard there was going to be a Tea Party in Chicago inspired by Santelli, but didn’t know if anyone was doing a rally in Nashville where I was based.  Finally I emailed Michelle Malkin and asked her if there was a Tea Party in Nashville.  Malkin sent an email back saying, ‘No, why don’t you organize one?’  I did.”

The first Tea Party in Nashville was held late February 2009 which drew a crowd of about 600. Judson then organized the Tax Day Tea Party in Nashville, which drew over 10,000 people into downtown.   It was at this time that Tea Party Nation was formed.  Later that year, Judson decided to bring activists from across the country together, so he organized the first National Tea Party Convention in February 2010, which featured Alaska’s former Governor and Republican Vice Presidential Nominee, Sarah Palin as it’s keynote speaker.

He currently manages the Tea Party Nation website, writes several daily columns and is working on more projects than any one person should.  He is a frequent guest on cable and broadcast news shows, including on Fox, MSNBC, CNN and others.
