WASHINGTON, January 20, 2013 – Smithsonian Visitors Guide & Tours for Smithsonian Institution announces a free special inauguration editon of the popular Smithsonian Tour app, packed with helpful “know-before-you-go” information that will help you navigate the inaugural crowds.

The tours offer five different options, based on what interests you, from a three-hour tour of the museum to a three-day tour of Washington, DC. If your interest is Art, History or Nature, well Smithsonian Tours have an app for that.

Just developed for the inaugural weekend, Smithsonian specialty tour of the season is the President’s Tour featuring a free interactive postcard that allows you to snap photos of friends putting them into George Washington’s uniform for a bit of revolutionary fun.

Once in the museum, the app will direct you on a tour of presidential and first lady highlights from the collection.  Easy to follow directions will direct you through five of the Smithsonian museums – Natural History, American History and American Indian Museums located on the mall to the National Portrait Gallery and the American Art Museum, located blocks away Penn Quarter.

Upgrade the app for 99 cents and get lists of “must-see” exhibits and daily event updates; turn by turn walking directions of the National Mall, making it easy to locate artifacts in the museums and metro stops to take you to other areas.

The app also includes maps, directions and, when enacted, a “Friend Finder” to help you locate your party when you wander off on some self-exploration.

Navigation, event, and exhibit information for Air and Space, American History, Natural History, The Smithsonian Castle, Udvar-Hazy Center, African Art, American Indian, Anacostia Community museums, the Freer, Sackler, Hirshorn, and National Portrait  art museums, the Postal Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Renwick Gallery and the National Zoo.

The Smithsonian Inaugural Edition app is available at iTunes.
