WASHINGTON, Jan. 26, 2012 - Premier League club Bolton has completed the signing of American defender Tim Ream from the New York Red Bulls in a $3.9 million transfer move.
Ream becomes the second American on Bolton's roster joining U.S. midfielder Stuart Holden.
"Tim is a very composed player who is good on the ball," Holden said on the Bolton website. "He is an excellent communicator and a talented footballer in general."
The 24-year-old Ream will replace English defender Gary Cahill in the Bolton backline. Cahill recently moved to Chelsea.
Ream, who signed a three-and-half-year long contract with the Premier League club, had been tracked by a number of English clubs according to Bolton head coach Owen Coyle.
"Tim was trailed by a couple of clubs, including West Brom and Arsenal, so it's great that he sees his future here," Coyle told BBC.com. "He is young, has a tremendous attitude and a winning mentality. I know he will fit in well with the rest of the squad."
The Saint Louis, Missouri-born Rean, played 58 games with the Red Bulls. He has played seven times for the U.S. national team.
"I knew there was interest in me when I came over last year and trained for a couple of weeks, then after Christmas things started to ramp up," said Ream. "Being able to play against Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal in the Emirates Cup [last summer for Red Bulls] gave me an insight and knowledge into what I need to be successful here."
