WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2012 - D.C. United, which has a track-record for mining  Argentine talent, has signed 30-year-old Emiliano Dudar. The 6-foot-4 Argentine defender joins United on a free transfer from BSC Young Boys of Switzerland.

“Emiliano has terrific experience in Europe and with some of the top teams in South America, and we thrilled to announce his addition to our squad,” said D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper. “He will provide our back line with a big, physical presence, excellent technical ability, and strong leadership qualities.”

Over the years United has signed numerous Argentine players, including midfielders  Christian Gomez and Marcelo Gallardo.

Dudar played 48 games for BSC Young Boys, which is based in Bern, from 2009 to 2011 and was named the league’s defender of the year in the 2009-2010 campaign. His next season was cut short due to a serious concussion. Dudar was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering a severe head injury on Sept. 12, 2010, when he accidentally clashed heads with teammate. He was successfully woken up a day later.

The well-traveled Dudar began his career with Argentine club Velez Sarsfield. He also spent time in Brazil at Vaso da Gama.
