WASHINGTON, January 24, 2012 - Major League Soccer announced today that Philadelphia will be the host city for the 2012 MLS All-Star Game. The game will be played at the Philadelphia Union's stadium, PPL Park, on July 25 at Chester, Pa.

For the ninth time in MLS history the MLS all-stars will play an elite international club which will be announced at a later date. Last year the MLS All-Star team played Manchester United.

The game at PPL Park will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2, Galavision or Telefutura and in Canada on TSN and RDS.

“Philadelphia has become a destination for hosting major soccer events in recent years, and we are pleased to bring the 2012 MLS All-Star Game to a region with incredibly passionate soccer supporters,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

The Philadelphia Union sold out the majority of its games at PPL Park, since the venue opened in June of 2010. The Union averaged more than 19,000 fans per game in 2010, their inaugural MLS season. It will be the first MLS all-star game in the Philadelphia region.
