WASHINGTON, April 12, 2012 - The summer invasion of big European soccer clubs continues.

The Philadelphia Union will host Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at PPL Park, in Chester, PA. Schalke currently sits in third place in the Bundesliga and is one Germany’s most attended teams with average crowds of 61,000. The club is just one win away from a top four finish and a spot in the Champions League next season.

Schalke features such stars as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, currently ranked second in the Bundesliga in scoring, Spanish legend Raul and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jermaine Jones. Huntelaar has notched 24 goals this season and is second in the scoring table, while Raul, a veteran of Real Madrid, has 14 goals. In his days in Spain, Raul scored 228 goals in 550 games for Real. Some key players on the German team’s roster will be unavailable due to the Euro 2012 finals.

“Over the last two years we have hosted top English, Mexican, Spanish and Scottish clubs to play the Union,” said Nick Sakiewicz, Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner. “Now it is only fitting that we bring one of Germany’s top Bundesliga clubs to the Greater Philadelphia region for the first time for our fans to enjoy. Schalke 04 is a club with rich European history and we are honored to welcome them and the German community.”

The Union will also host Aston Villa of the Barclays Premier League on July 18.

Tickets: Union full season ticket holders will be able to purchase their same seats at the per ticket price of their season ticket beginning today at 2:00 p.m. EST and ending on Monday, April 16. Card carrying season ticket holders can have this game loaded on to their current season ticket card.

Individual tickets ranging in price from $25 for Supporters tickets to $50 for Midfield tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. EST.
