WASHINGTON, October 4, 2011—Los Angeles Galaxy star striker Landon Donovan will miss the upcoming U.S. national team games against Honduras and Ecuador because of a strained right quadriceps.

Former Galaxy ace Edson Buddle will replace Donovan on the roster.

Donovan was hurt over the weekend in the Galaxy’s 2-1 win over the visiting Real Salt Lake. The Galaxy said Donovan was to receive treatment in Los Angeles for the quad strain and that he would miss the U.S. matches “in order to completely recover from the injury,” according to the Associated Press.

The U.S. team will begin training Tuesday in South Florida for Saturday night’s game against Honduras. The team then plays Ecuador in Harrison, N.J. on Oct. 11.

Donovan has scored 46 goals in 138 appearances with the U.S. team. Buddle has made seven appearances, scoring twice.

Buddle, 30, now playing in the lower division of German soccer, scored twice at the weekend, and earned an assist in FC Ingolstadt’s 5-3 loss to Bochum.
