The Washington Freedom (1-2) will host the unbeaten Saint Louis Athletica (1-0-2) on Saturday at RFK Stadium in a doubleheader with D.C. United. The game will kickoff at 6 p.m. following the D.C. United-New York Red Bulls game which starts at 4 p.m. This is the Freedom’s first meeting with Saint. Louis this season. Last year, the Freedom was 2-0-1 against Athletica.

The Freedom is coming off a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia against the Independence last weekend. Athletica played to a 1-1 tie against the Boston Breakers last Sunday.

“It’s been tough but we are still trying to get our chemistry working,” said club spokesperson Jennifer Brunson. “It’s good to play here [RFK] playing front of our biggest fans.”

Washington has never lost to Athletica.

“We have a good record against Saint Louis and we will be in full force against them,” Brunson said.

In the first match between the two teams in 2009, Freedom posted two goals late in the game to manage a 3-3 tie. Freedom won the second match-up with a late goal by Rebecca Moros in the 83rd minute to give Freedom the win. Freedom won the last meeting against Saint Louis, which positioned Freedom in the fourth playoff spot of the 2009 WPS Playoffs.
