BOSTON, September 18, 2012 – Geno where ya been? Yes, I know it’s been a very long time since my last Washington Times Communities column. My dog ate my homework? No. I have cancer. I had been having issues and had gone to the ER and my primary care doctor a few times. I didn’t get better.
I asked my primary care doc if I should go see a gastroenterologist and get a colonoscopy. He said no. He said I was too young. He was wrong. I went to see the gastroenterologist on my own and had a colonoscopy which confirmed I have cancer. I urge you to learn from my experience. Listen to your body!!!
It’s been a tough time emotionally. But surprisingly, my spirits remain high. I am so blessed with having amazing support from family, friends and my Twitter/Facebook buddies. I have been overwhelmed with so much support. My doctor has been dumbfounded at my positive attitude. How can I not have a good attitude? Life is so great. I want to live. I WILL live.
I have continued to run my Geno’s World site. It brings me great comfort to remain “normal” and report on TV shows, movies, celebrities and charities. So many kind people have asked how they can help. Easy. Make me smile, keep me laughing, say a prayer. Nothing makes me happier!!
There is one other thing you can do for me. I had run a Geno’s World fundraiser for Carroll Center for the Blind over the last two years. I’m not letting cancer stop me from starting the 3rd annual fundraiser. The cause means the world to me. Knowing that I can still raise money for my favorite charity as I go through treatment and operations gives me amazing strength.
Please do what you can. Thanks!
