Baby Boomers and the fall of America

In the autumn of their years, the Baby Boom generation has one last chance to undo the mess they made Photo: wikicommons

WASHINGTON, October 20, 2013 — The Greatest Generation fought America out of the Great Depression and World War II. They beat Fascist oppression, then held the line against Communist domination. They built the greatest economic standard of living for average folks the world has ever known.

But they failed in a very real way that has dire consequence to this day. They sought to spare their children from the challenges they themselves had faced. That vast generation known as Baby Boomers were coddled in a cocoon of comfort, cradled with misguided compassion. Too many were given their way on too many things, never allowed to suffer too much or work too hard for their daily bread.

The Boomers rebelled against authority, of course. Every generation does. But that generation was left to Leftist social engineers, who already dominated the academic world. We failed to return to the tried and true ethos of tradition. Sophisticated subversion supplanted American core values.

America was under threat from within. Shadowy figures lurked behind political thrones whispering wormwood words, not to power, but to the People. Megacorporations and organized crime mingled with the elite. Foreign wars were fought for no real reason that helped America. The economy backslid and stagnated. The Welfare State expanded, promising the opposite of what it eventually delivered. Government spied on truth-tellers. No leader could be trusted.

We turned on, tuned in and dropped out. Wasted, we wasted our patrimony. Ate up the media massage fed to us by Bernays’ Madison Avenue. Imagined we were wonderful. Scorned property. Promoted promiscuity. Cared for clean ecology, but bought bogus Global Warming. Polluted ourselves with drugs. The ME generation got rid of God. Threw babies out with abortion bathwater. Sought Social Justice that far exceeded what was needed to fix America’s ills.

With enthusiasm spurred and pushed by myth-makers of popular music, Boomers marched to Fight the Power. Knew the revolution would not be televised. Felt the desperate urge to act, for it was the eve of destruction. And act we did.

Half a lifetime later, look how well we’ve done.

America is more authoritarian, corrupt, bloated and bankrupt than ever before. Sliding into greater economic depression, with looming international threats on the horizon.

The most populous generation, sons and daughters of the greatest generation, really screwed the pooch. We have seen to it that America’s wealth has been all but dissipated in debt. That real rights are nearly negated; false ones foisted in their place. And in 2012, we re-elected President Obama. We jumped the shark. This sitcom should have been canceled seasons ago.

Almost too late, with a start, we woke. In 2010, we took back the House. In 2012, we kept it and increased the percentage of honest Constitutionalists. Though we grow old, we are not dead yet. Though we are poorer than our parents, we still hold the lion’s share of wealth in America.

It is time to make amends, to own up to our massive failures. Time to sacrifice our comfort for the sake of our children, and their children. Time to make America America once again.

Our parents did that for us.
